                   5 years later

"Maurinette, you have to leave this house, go out with friends, go to parties, find cute boys" he wiggles his eyebrows suggestively
Maurinette cocks her eyebrow as she stiffles a laughter
"you are encouraging me to go out and have fun" she says, laying emphasis on the fun
"You are old enough, come on loosen up" he shakes his body demonstratively as he sits on a couch lazily, picking the remote on the side table
"I had to choose you to become my guardian"
"And I know you don't regret that one bit" he smiles and switches on the television
"And you alex, when are you gonna get a job, leave the house, don't you have friends"
"I don't need friends" he responds, absent minded as he concentrates on his favorite show
"What about someone special" she says as she sits besides him, snatching the remote from his hands. He ignores her question and she switches off the television
"Maurinette" he yells
"Come on"  she whines
He groans and massages his forehead "I don't need anything Maurinette, I have everything I always wanted, a house, money and a family, you. I have had my own time of mingling and making friends centuries ago. You are still so young" he nudges her playfully with his shoulder
She smiles, touched at his confession.

It feels like just yesterday when he took her through a strange portal, cared for her and helped her mend her broken heart.
"And what will the police say about your mysterious riches" she smirks
"I got it fair and square" he folds his arms like a little child and she chuckles
"Magically making money isn't fair and square, alex" she switches on the television, earning him a grateful smile
"Maybe I'll take you on your word, I have been cooked up in this mansion. It isn't good for my health"
"Now you see my point" he raises his hands exasperated.

"You may be old but you look so handsome and I am sure the ladies wouldn't be able to keep their hands off you" she winks "so you should also take your advice"

"Should you be telling your dad that?"
Dad? She pauses a little. He had encouraged her to call him father and had even gotten adoption papers and she couldn't be happier to have him as a dad but could he really replace her dad-dad
"it doesn't matter" she kisses him on the cheek and stands up.
"besides have you seen the way people look at me when you are with me, they might think we are, you know---" she trails off, she couldn't get her self to say the words, he took over the father role and she accepted him with her heart, he became the only person in her life
"Can't help it, with this killer looks" he rests his hands behind his head and grins. His muscles move through his casual grey sweater and sweat pants, any woman would be enthralled and even her if they had met on a different occasion
"Yeah am sure you can't" she chuckles "I got a job invitation in a huge company, can't let my three degrees in psychology go to waste now would I?" She smiles
"No you won't now off you go" he goes back to his show and she runs up the stairs into her room to change

She turns the knob of the door and walks into her room. She plops ungracefully on her queen sized bed and sighs as she stares at the White silky canopy of her bed.
Her room is as big as an average sized living room. When they had newly come, Alex had bought one of the biggest house in New Jersey for them both as he decided to always be there for her, he took care of her and encouraged her to further her studies. She read psychology in college and decided to go further, she always had the passion for understanding peoples feelings and she also felt like wasting  some more years in the college. She came out the best and this got the attention of many multibillion companies.
She often wondered how she could do so well in school and would suspect Alex of doing something, magical and when she asks him, he would always say that it's her own personal work, he would shower her praises on how smart she is. She still had her doubts but would let it slide.
He had been so nice to offer to teach her how to control her powers and she alternated it with her education. He would teach her on weekends while she went to school on weekdays. The mansion has a special room for her training and over the years, she realised that she had extreme strength, contending with almost the oldest vampires.
She is also telekinetic which usually helps her when she looses interest in moving any part of her muscles and recently, she had learnt how to move things without using her fingers.
