I woke up to see Niall hovering over Anthony from the side of the bed. His hands at his sides as he tried to wake up the little boy. “Ni Ni, is Mary going to leave?” I saw his features soften, glancing over in my direction as my eyes jetted shut in hopes that I wouldn’t blow my cover.
“No. At least I hope not.” He whispered.
“But you guys are always mad at each other.” He quickly stated. “And you and dad faught and—”
“Not this again, Tony.” He sighed, “Mary isn’t going anywhere. I know that for a fact, alright? I’ll make sure it doesn’t happen, alright?”
I imagine by the lack of voice from Tony, that he simply just nodded in response to Niall. I cleared my throat, rubbing my eyes as I pretended to stretch to wake myself up. “Mm, good morning boys.” Anthony smiled, jumping out of the bed as he pranced around the small motel room.
“Mary! Niall said that we can go to a carnival today!” I glanced over at him with an eye brow raised. It couldn’t be too late into the morning, and he couldn’t have been up that long to know what was going to be in town.“Are we?” I smiled, completely oblivious to niall’s plans.
“Yeah, was down in the lobby area and the lady at the front desk said there was a carnival in town. She saw me carrying Tony into bed last night, and thought he would like it. She said it’s free. Besides tickets for rides, or any food that this kid would want.” He chuckled, messing with the hair on top of Tony’s head.
“What time does this, Carnival, start?”
“Don’t know, she just said it would be in the field across the lot.” He beamed. “I just know I want to get tony boy here some cotton candy on a stick!”
“Ya know Niall, I’ve always wanted one of those big stuffed bears.” I smiled, sitting cross legged on the pullout couch.
“Who said I’m gonna win ya one?” he smirked, stalking towards me before plopping down on the couch on his stomach. Propped up on this elbows as he stared up at me. “It’s actually like you read my mind. I was gonna try and win ya something when we got there, but I didn’t want you to get your hopes up. I might be good at the actin tough game, but not carnival games.” He laughed. “That’s a whole new story, princess.”
“Ni, Ni. What have I told you about calling me princess?” I smiled, seeing his cheeks flush red. I crossed my arms, laughing shyly as he shook his head, a smile plastered on his lips.
“I got it, I got it. But don’t you feel a little different about the nickname since I’m not using it to be rude?”
I sighed, shrugging. “I guess it’s a little different. But, still not sure about it. I’m far from a princess.” I joked.
“Oh, sheesh Mary. You may not have been born a princess, but you’re my princess.”
He pushed himself off the fold out bed, and made his way into the bathroom across the room. I glanced over at Anthony who had been staring at Niall and I this whole time. “What?”
“Oh Mary! You’re my princess.” He mocked, giggling when he heard Niall shouting out at him from the bathroom. I shook my head, smiling at the two brothers throwing around banter.
