"Sleeping"
"Mama" I groan and shift my hips slightly, opening my eyes and looking over at Sofia.
"What's wrong baby?"
"Eliza's made breakfast and she wanted me to wake you"
"Tell her I say breakfast in bed"
"Ok" She runs from the room and I sigh, flip onto my side and let sleep pull me back under.
"What time do you call this?" I smile as Eliza presses her lips against my shoulder blade. "Wake up Sleeping Beauty"
"You better have coffee"
"Ok Sleeping Beauty turns into Grumpy Beauty real fast Sofia" Sofia giggles and I look over my shoulder at Eliza.
"Watch it. Where's my coffee?"
"Kiss first" I lean up and kiss her softly, before shifting so I'm sitting up with my sheet around me.
"Next time when you know I'm naked don't send my daughter in"
"How was I meant to know?" I raise an eyebrow and she grins leaning in and kissing me quickly.
"It's not like you're the one who undressed me, right?"
"Why would I ever do that?" I laugh and shake my head as she passes me a shirt off the floor. I pull it on before moving the sheet up around me as I'm passed my coffee.
"Thankyou" Sofia eats her Sunday pancakes quietly andI lean over and kiss her head. "Did you use your manners?"
"She did" Eliza smiles after Sofia nods.
"Good girl. Are you excited for moms?" Sofia nods again.
"Is she going to be there?"
"Who? Penny?"
"Yea"
"I don't know baby, why's that?"
"I don't want her to be there"
"What did she do?"
"Nothing"
"So why don't you want her there?"
"No reason"
"I can tell when you lie. Has she hurt you?"
"No!"
"Sofia"
"I'll give you two-"
"No. Sofia, talk to me, what did Penny do?"
"She hit me" I gasp and climb over Eliza, pulling pants on and grabbing my phone.
"Babe-"
"No" I leave my room, dialing Callie's number.
"Callie speaking"
"Get your ass here now Calliope!"
"What?"
"You. Here. Now! Do I need to spell it out more for you?" I hang up on her and lean on the kitchen bench, sighing as I hang my head. "Am I a bad mother?" I ask Eliza, her hands coming to rest on my hips.
"No. You didn't know"
"Exactly. I should have picked up on it. She should be able to come to me. Callie should have told me! Why is Callie still with her?"
"Is she? Still with her, I mean? And does Callie know?"
"She is. I walked in on them at work... in a supply closet, half naked. God I'm never going to get that image out of my head"
"Don't accuse her of knowing, or letting it happen. You don't need to fight over this"
"Fight over what?"
"Arizona"
"If Penny lays a finger on my daughter again I will end her"
"Or you could just go with that" Eliza sighs, walking over to the fridge.
"What are you talking about? Penny hasn't-"
"Don't. Don't defend her. Sofia refuses to see Penny, she's obviously done something"
"She hasn't done anything! Penny just doesn't give her everything she wants like you do"
"Excuse me? Now you're going to tell me how to raise my daughter?"
"Don't fight" I look at Sofia and sigh.
"We're not. Go back upstairs and eat your breakfast sweetie"
"You always fight"
"How about we go finish those pancakes Sof" Sofia sighs as Eliza holds her hand out for her to take.
"No"
"Sweetheart. We aren't fighting, I promise. Go with Eliza. She made you pancakes"
"No. I shouldn't have told you"
"You should have told me as soon as it happened"
"Penny never laid a finger on you Sofia"
"Yes. She hit me when you were at work"
"Why?" Callie crouches down in front of Sofia "Why would she do that?"
"I don't know!"
"How many times?" Sofia shrugs "More than 5?" She nods and Callie sighs and pulls her in for a hug "Why didn't you tell me?"
"I was scared. She said she would do worse if I told" Callie pulls back and looks at Sofia.
"Show me how she hit you"
"No!" Sofia pulls out of Callie's hold. "I'm not hitting you"
"No, just hold your hand how she hit you" Sofia holds her hand against Callie's cheek and Callie sighs "OK. Come here baby" Eliza wraps an arm around me and I sigh, resting my head on her shoulder. "Go to Mama and Eliza. I will go sort this and then come back and get you and we'll go out for lunch, just the two of us" Sofia nods but doesn't pull away from Callie. Callie stands up with Sofia in her arms and turns to face me. "I didn't know but I will sort it. I'm sorry"
"Apologize to your daughter Callie. Next time make sure your girlfriend isn't a child abuser before she meets Sofia"
"I love you Sof and I am sorry"
"I love you too Mom" Sofia whispers as Callie kisses her head. I'm passed Sofia and Callie leaves quickly as Sofia sobs into my neck.
"Shh it's OK, Mama has you" I whisper, kissing her head. "She will never touch you again, I promise" Eliza pulls me into her and she kisses Sofia's cheek.
"You're safe here Sof" Sofia nods and moves so she's hugging both of us and I smile sadly.
"We should tell her" Eliza nods as Sofia pulls back. "We have some news. Good news" Sofia watches me quietly. "I asked Eliza to marry me"
"Oh my god" Sofia squeals, hugging us tightly. "Am I flower girl?"
"Of course you are" Eliza smiles and runs her fingers through Sofia's hair.
"I love you both" Sofia says softly. A smile coversmy face and I kiss Sofia's cheek.
