I never had an easy, simple life. I was never allowed to walk anywhere alone. I always had to have some buff, deadly silent man right next to me; watching my every move, as if I was constantly in danger. Because of this, I never had any real friends. I had little to none social interaction. Every one was either too afraid of the power my father had, or just used to me for the luxury things I owned. In summary, my life-- if you could even call it one-- sucked.

I sat at the marble dinner table, chewing mindlessly on the red straw that lead inside of a wine glass, filled with apple juice. My eyes wandered around the room watching my security guard of the day, Xilo, walk back and forth across the room. He had been doing this for 10 minutes, impatiently waiting for me or my father to give him his next command. It was oddly entertaining, and I purposely kept him waiting a little longer watching his eyebrows scrunch together in boredom and irritation.

"Xilo." His head snapped up looking directly towards me, with relief radiating in his dark brown irises. I gave him a small smile showing off my teeth, to which he bowed his head towards me. I never knew why he bowed towards me. He always simply shook hands with every one else in the house, but never with me. It was almost as if it was forbidden for him to touch me.

"Yes, Ms. Valentina?"

I flinched inwardly at his formalities. Xilo was perhaps in his early twenties, and he was the youngest security guard ever assigned to me. However, he was also one of the strongest and most intimidating- right underneath Mika. Mika was only assigned to me whenever there was an attack on the country, or if someone threatened my dad. Or, if he was going to do something that could cause someone to want to bring harm to me or anyone else.

"I have told you over a thousand times already. Call me Nova." Xilo gave me the normal tilt of his lips, whenever I suggested he called me by my first name. I already knew what words were going to fumble out of his lips. It was always the same response, no matter what I insisted.

"Yes, but your father tells me otherwise." I rolled my eyes at his loyalty to my father. Xilo had been around for 4 years, and he managed to become my father's favorite instantly. Sometimes I wondered if my dad seen him like a son, one he never had. Because he had me. The daughter he never planned for.

"Do my wishes not matter?" I questioned, after draining the wine glass empty. Marisol, our lovely maid, rushed over immediately and raised the glass towards me asking if I wanted a refill, to which I sweetly shook my head 'no'.
