Chapter Four

~ Nova's P.O.V.~

After some how managing to fool Mika into thinking that I truly had no idea who 'she' was, I quickly escaped back to my room. Deep breathing my mind began to race as the events from the day began to play back in my head. No normal human being could just launch out of a window, and then disappear out of thin air like that. It just was not physically possible.

My thoughts were cut short when there was a gentle knock on my door, without waiting for me to answer my dad walked in with a worried expression on his face. "Are you alright, sweetheart?" I nodded my head, while he cradled my face in his hands examining me to make sure I was not lying. He pulled back with a relief sigh.

"There is someone I need you to meet, Novienna." I couldn't help but cringe at his use of my full first name again. There was always someone he just 'needed' me to meet. After today he was probably introducing me to a whole new team of security guards. Exactly what I need, I thought sarcastically. I was unable to hide my surprise when I seen a beautiful, dark skinned girl with striking blue eyes walk in the room with a small smile on her face. She was short, and her curves were emphasized with what she wore. She was dressed in a low cut yellow dress, paired with black ankle boots, and the yellow complemented her skin tone gorgeously.

She walked in a confident stride however her eyes never met mine, and kept looking forward above my head. "Hello, Novienna. My name is Khai." Now he's got her calling me that too?! Her voice was small yet confident, and she stood with pride. Just who was she exactly?

"Nice to meet you, but it's just Nova." She nodded at my words with a smile, still not making eye contact with me.

"Okay, Just Nova." I smirked at her words, already liking her friendly personality.

"Khai here is one of your new security guards. She will protect you along side of Xilo and Mika. I can not afford another incident like the one that took place today." My eyes burst out of their sockets at his words. Khai was supposed to be a security guard? But she was so small and innocent looking. She looked as if she wouldn't even hurt a fly!

Khai tilted her head a little, still not looking at me directly before a knowing smile crept onto her face. "I am not as innocent as you think, Nova." How did she know what I was thinking? I hesitated unable to respond to her, and she released a small laugh. "I assume that was your first thought. I am used to those first impressions, however I have been training in defense all of my life. I am without a doubt, fully capable to protect you." My father stood tall at her words, almost prideful.

"I would never leave you in the hands of someone unable to protect you to their fullest capabilities." I had no choice but to agree with him there. Until today, I have never had any trouble with anyone trying to harm me. "I will leave you two to get to know each other a little better." With those words he placed his hand on Khai's shoulder leaning over to whisper something in her ear, before briefly exiting my room.

I stared at Khai, who was still staring above my head, which was beginning to bother me. It made her seem sort of robotic? "So, Khai, what did you do before now?" Confusing me further, Khai stuck her hand out slowly before waving it around the room and paused it in front of a chair. She breathed in deeply waving her hand down, before she walked straight towards it, sitting with her legs crossed at the ankle.

"I trained in a pac- in a program, with others who have been impatiently waiting for an opportunity like this." I raised one of my eyebrows at her fumble on her words, but brushed it off.

"How many of you are there?"

"Over 200." A wide smile broke out on her face, and her blue eyes lit up with satisfaction. My jaw dropped without shame. There were 200 other people just like her, waiting for the chance to protect me? That seems absurd.

"And how old are you?"

"19."

"You're only two years older than me! How can you be on the same level as Goliath and Kronos?" She tilted her head, her eyes filled with amusement at my words.

"Goliath and Kronos?" She repeated in confusion, but a smile tugged at her lips.

"Xilo and Mika." My cheeks burned, as she began to laugh loudly at my own personal reference of the two. We continued talking, and I found out more and more about her and her defense training program. They all seemed to care for each other like a family.

"You guys are like a pack." I joked, and her eyebrow raised slightly at my words.

"Ya know, like of werewolves?" I explained, and she smiled brightly.

"I know what you meant. It is just hard to believe how oblivious you are, Nova." Oblivious? How was I oblivious for making a joke? Way to make a situation awkward, Khai. Way to go.

I stood up from the bed, and immediately her hand went out like it had before as she began scanning the room until it was facing where I was now standing. Okay, this is just weird. I continued my walk to the curtains, where I closed them tightly, the room dimming down a little.

"I hope you don't mind the dark." I spoke, before returning to my comfortable spot on the bed, and a loud musical laugh escaped her lips.

"I am no stranger to darkness, Novienna."

"What do you mean? Did you guys only train at night or something?" I asked, truly curious on what she meant by her statement.

Another laugh broke free from her mouth, as she continued to look forward, still not looking at me as she shook her head. She let out a sigh of amusement as her laughter died down. I looked at her in surprise for her eyes for the first time were focused on me.

"Nova, I am blind."
