The Vampire's Sweetheart

Chapter Six

───────────────────────────────────

My neck throbbed, and I groaned uncomfortably as I turned my body from where I was laying. My eyes snapped open at the sound of the familiar dark voice, that belonged to a vampire, who not too long ago tried to kill me. I was unable to sit up straight, and a string of curse words left my lips at my failed attempts. His mysterious figure was standing above me, peering down at me with curiosity and admiration in his eyes.

"Where am I?" I spoke timidly, and his eyebrows raised in surprise, as if he had not expected me to speak to him at all.

"One of my private homes. You are safe here, little hunter." I wanted to throw my head back and laugh at the irony. Safe? In this situation I was many things, but safe was not one of them. My mind raced back to what Khai said. She had called him a king. Why were we not at his palace or something?

"A king with no palace? Wouldn't that be the safest place?" He nodded at my words, walking to the other side of the bed, that I was placed on.

"It would be," He sat down on one of the nearby chairs, staring off into the distance, "But someone who lives there, someone much stronger than I am, wants you dead." My stomach dropped at his words. Why would anyone even want to kill me? I began to think of the first incident where I was attacked by Esme. Maybe he knew of her.

"Who are you?"

"My name is Locaine. I am king of the vampires."

Just my luck. "Why?"

He looked at me confused, "Why what?"

"Why does this person want me dead?"

"She believes you are a monster." I scoffed at this.

He drinks blood, has fangs, and can change his eye color and I am the monster? I attempted once again to sit up, this time with success.

"Why have you taken me?" I asked breathlessly, oddly tired from the energy it took to sit myself up right. He stared at me with out saying anything for a moment, and I could not help but admire his features. He was handsome, and every word he spoke sent an electrifying tingle through out my body.

"You are my beloved, my soulmate."

"You're nuts." I spat quickly. Although the words brought me some weird pleasure, it was ridiculous. I just want to go home. I want to be alone again.

"The sooner you accept fate, the sooner you can learn to accept me." I stayed silent. Could I ever accept this? Could I somehow grasp the concept of me being with a vampire for the rest of my life? No. Of course not. The moment I am able, I will run away from here, and return home. I mentally slapped my self on the forehead for such wishful thinking. What is the possibility of me, a puny human, outrunning a vampire? I had zero chances-- but wait. He spoke something of me being a hunter's daughter. Could he in fact be implying that my father hunted his kind?

The thought thrilled and terrified me. Thrilling, because I knew that my father already was notified of my absence, and is planning a rescue mission right at this moment. Terrifying, because he knew of these creatures and kept me in the dark for all my life.
