The Vampire's Sweetheart

Chapter Twenty-Eight

───────────────────────────────────

Fear erupted inside of me as I quickly took a step backwards, and Locaine pushed my body behind his before he hissed towards Zofia, who had been staring off into the distance with a bored expression.

"Zofia protect Novienna." He commanded, and she looked at me before nodding her head stiffly. Zofia moved towards me and placed her hand on my arm sending a small shock through-out my body. Everyone around us began to spread out preparing themselves for battle. Locaine moved forward before tossing an intimidating glance at Zofia.

"If anyone tries to touch her." He began, before glaring menacingly, "I give you permission to kill." Zofia tilted her head up at his words, before flashing me a small smile, that oddly made me feel safe. The sound of hooves grew louder as our opponents began to close in on us. I didn't understand why Valentina Hunters were here. Was it possible they were working for my dad? I shook my head quickly; my father would never fight alongside of such evil.

Next to me Gia growled loudly, and I noticed her eyes shifting before turning into a bright orange matching her hair. Alaric shook out his hands and flames began to form on the base of his palms. Demetri, Damion, and Langston walked forward standing bravely next to Locaine, who was crouched down staring off into the woods.

I heard another sound of hooves coming from the side of me, and Zofia quickly whirled around on her feet standing protectively in front of me. Her hands were balled up and little flecks of static electricity bounced around her hands, waiting to end someone's life. I stared in confusion as a horse came up to us neighing loudly with no rider on top. Zofia stepped forward reaching out for the top of the horse and yanked at the air before pulling down an invisible figure, who landed roughly on the ground with a thud. Lucky became visible as he laid on his back, an amused chuckle leaving his lips.

"1 down, about 15 more to go." He stood up brushing his body off and twitched causing his body to become invisible again. Zofia watched him disappear and slowly moved back to stand next to me.

Everyone froze as the sound of wolves howling echoed louder over the horses. Gia frowned stepping forward towards the noise. "The wolves are fighting with the hunters?" She questioned, staring at Alaric with a confused expression on her face.

"It is Victor." Locaine called out to everyone. "This is it! This is what you came for!" He yelled out, watching as hungry, wide eyed wolves came into the clearing snarling and snapping their jaws at us. Shortly after they appeared, men dressed in armor with purple capes on their backs riding on horses were visible. I stepped back gasping when I noticed the man in front with a wild look in his eye was my father. I couldn't believe my father was leading a team of malicious and cruel men, who killed for pleasure. My thoughts on my father were cut brief, as I watched the vampires run at special speed in the direction of the wolves with no fear of who stood behind them.

"Gia and Raven avoid shifting into werewolves. The King's vampires do not know what your wolves look like and will kill you if they see you out there." Esme spoke up, and I noticed she had her fangs out and her eyes had changed color like they had when she had attacked me the first time we met. Gia and Raven nodded as they moved quickly to help the vampires fighting the wolves.
