The Vampire's Sweetheart

Chapter Sixteen

───────────────────────────────────

I trudged my way up the stairs, arguing with my self mentally on whether or whether not to attempt to play nice with the same guy, who just not even too long ago bit me on the neck. I am not sure whether it was the rational or irrational side of me that won, but here I am slowly opening the door to his room. I shakily walked in, and noticed him sitting on the bed with his face in his hands as he roughly tugged on his hair in frustration. He immediately shot up when he noticed me walking in. I hesitated before walking over to him sticking my hand out towards his direction, and he looked at it confusingly.

"Hello, my name is Nova."

His silver eyes lit up in amusement, before he playfully took my hand turning it around, and gently placing a warm kiss on the back of it. "Locaine, pleasure to meet you."

I pulled my hand back slowly, not completely over the sparks that shot up my arm when he kissed my hand. "I am willing to try this whole beloved thing, if you can be civilized."

He scrunched up his eyebrows at my words, "I have been civ-" I cut him off, rolling my eyes.

"Biting me in the neck is not being civilized, Locaine." I responded in a calm voice, and he scoffed.

"You were trying to leave."

"You can't bite me every time I try to leave!" I raised my voice a little, only because his justification of what he did was insane.

He smirked at me before winking, "I can."

My eyes widened, and I so desperately wanted to kiss him.

"Just because you can, does not mean you should." He stood up, causing me to have to look up at him and I did not like how small I felt compared to him. He looked down at me, once again with amusement glinting in his eyes.

"Okay, um maybe we can get to know each other? Since I am expected to spend the rest of my life with you." I swallowed the lump that had formed in my throat, as I grew nervous under the intensity of his gaze. His silver eyes sparkled, and they were hands down my favorite feature on him.

"How do you wish to do that?"

I fumbled with my words, not expecting him to actually go along with what I was saying. "Oh, um like what is your favorite color?"

"Purple." He answered quickly, and I felt my cheeks burning knowing exactly why he chose that color.

"Mine is silver." I smiled at him warmly.

"Silver is more of a tone if you actually-" I laughed loudly, causing him to actually smile- bright white teeth and all.

"So you can do the whole cute favorite color thing, but I can't?" I pouted playfully, sticking out my lower lip for the full effect.

He caught me off guard when he leaned down and gently sucked on my bottom lip, causing my eyes to widen in shock. His tongue glided across my bottom lip, making me gasp, and he took this as the opportunity to capture both of my lips in a simple, small kiss. I felt him pulling back when I wasn't responding, but I quickly began to move my lips against his. My stomach flipped at the feeling, and I relished in the moment. I had never kissed anyone before, so I wasn't really sure if I was doing anything right. My trembling hand came up to tug lightly on his hair, as I bit his lower lip, causing a groan to escape his lips. Pulling back slowly, I stared into his silver eyes and blushed wildly as he winked at me.

"I..I like kissing you, Locaine." I admitted, causing him to lean back and chuckle as he admired my face.

"You are stuck with me forever, so it would suck if you didn't."

Rolling my eyes, I playfully shoved his shoulder and he pulled me in towards his chest, as he hugged me tightly. "You understand why I want you stay here, don't you?"

I laid my head against his chest, surprised when I heard a low heart beat, "You want me safe, but didn't you say I was safe with you?"

He didn't speak after that, and I smiled triumphantly knowing I got him stuck.

"Hey, how come you have a heartbeat? Aren't you um, dead?"

He laughed, and his chest rumbled against my ear, "When you find your beloved, you know from two things: their intoxicating smell and your heart will start beating again."

I frowned, "How come?"

"You finally have something worth living for." He admitted, making my own heart skip a million beats.

And for the next few minutes we just stood there peacefully enjoying each other's company. I was mad. I was absolutely mad for allowing the man, who savagely bit me, to hold me as if we were lovers. But we were, weren't we? What good would it do for me to fight this? Like Damion said, it would only tire and weaken Locaine, and eventually myself too. But what will I do when my father comes? Of course, I will be forced to choose; but will I? Could I willingly choose between my father and my beloved? Would they make me choose? Or would one, give me up to give me my best chance?

"Novienna." His voice was dark, and filled with an emotion I couldn't depict.

"Yes, Locaine?"

"Do not fight me anymore." He almost pleaded, and it pained me to hear his voice so small.

"I won't. I promise, I'm done fighting."

Accept fate. Accept him.

And that is exactly what I planned on doing.

A/N: This was just a chapter to show some character development. I have to have them come together at some point, but will they stay this way?
