The Vampire's Sweetheart

Chapter Thirteen

───────────────────────────────────

Locaine, Esme, and I stared at Khalida in confusion, as frustrated tears continued to stream down her face quickly.

Locaine growled before gripping her by her arm tightly, "What do you mean, which one?"

Khalida's eyes widened as she visibly gulped, pushing him away forcing a smile on her face. Her attention turned towards me, "Many people will kill you for many different reasons, in different places at different times." She breathed heavily, before smiling brightly at Locaine.

My heart dropped to my stomach. This did not help our situation at all. It only made it worse. Aleksandria wasn't the only one out to get me. I felt my hands begin to shake, as panic settled in.

"What are you talking about, muse?" Locaine spat her title angrily, his fangs poking out from his gums.

Khalida sighed deepily, before she took a seat gulping down the remaining drops of the wine from the glass.

"Multiple deaths can mean either of two things. One, you are just a terrible human being and everyone alive wants you dead." She paused, looking me over once more. "Or, there is a war brewing, and you are the center of it all." She explained simply.

"A war? Between who?" Esme chimed in, her eyes looking between me and Locaine curiously.

Locaine breathed deeply, before rubbing his face and angrily tugging at his hair. "Your father. He's coming for you."

A smile spread across my face before I had the chance to hide my excitement. I knew my dad would not just let me go. He was coming for me, and I would be safe. I wouldn't have to worry about being killed, or about spending the rest of my life with a vampire.

Locaine turned towards me quickly, his eyes darkening upon seeing my reaction to his words. My breath caught in my throat, and I quickly backed up putting distance between us two. His breathing deepened as he began to stalk towards me, his eyes pitch black filled with rage.

"Esme!" I squealed, as his hands gripped my waist.

My gaze flickered towards Khalida, who was standing quietly with a small smirk on her face. I pleaded with her using my eyes, and she raised her eyebrows and her hands showing she could not interfere. Esme backed away from us slowly retreating behind Khalida, who watched her with a flirty smile.

"Get out. Both of you." Locaine spoke, his voice dark as he continued to glare at me.

"Um.. King Locaine where should I go?" Esme asked hesitantly.

A low purr escaped Khalida's lips as she began to play with a strand of Esme's hair, "You can come with me, darling. I've never had a ginger before."

Esme's eyes widened and she looked at me with panic and confusion. "I'm not a ginger.." She mouthed towards me, and if I wasn't held in a tight grip by an angry Locaine I probably would have laughed.

"I'll just go hide out-- I mean check up on things at the castle." Esme's cheeks were a bright red, as she squirmed away from Khalida, who was purring at her with her bright smile.

"OUT!" Locaine turned towards them growling, causing both of them to disappear quickly.

Locaine slowly turned his head back in my direction, and I choked on air completely uncomfortable with his stare. His hand came close to my face, reaching out for a strand of hair as he twirled it around his finger.

"Novienna." My stomach churned. Hearing his voice say my name made me want to swoon, and the feeling terrified me to the bone. He leaned in close, brushing his lips against my ear, causing me to shiver in anticipation.

"Y..Yes?" I stuttered, unable to control the fear that leaked through the tone of my voice.

Locaine pulled back a little, allowing himself to stare into my eyes and I stopped breathing momentarily. His eyes were pitch black, and his fangs were sticking out from his gums. I tried to pull myself away from him, but his grip was too strong and a smirk crawled onto his face at my weak attempts.

"You seem all too excited to leave me." His voice was dark and sent shivers down my spine.

"N..No I am n..not." I stuttered, frowning at my failed attempt to lie. His grip tightened, as he lowered his lips to my ear.

"I do not like when people lie to me, Novienna." His tongue darted out, licking my neck and I jumped desperately trying to get away from him. I whimpered when I felt him nick me with his fangs.

"You know, when a vampire finds their beloved they are to mark them."

Bravely, I raised my face to stare into his eyes once more. "Mark?" I questioned hesitantly.

He nodded his head, before burying his face in my neck again. "If I mark you, you will be mine until it disappears. Being away from me for too long will bring you pain, and eventually kill you." His hands were traveling around my body, causing me to jump once more when I felt his hand rub over my butt.

"How about I mark you, and then let your dad take you. See how long you last." I knew he was smirking, and I wanted nothing more than to beat him to a bloody pulp. Sadly, I was too weak to do that. I was too weak to defend myself against anybody

"Please don't. I'll stay." I whimpered pathetically.

"And, why would I believe that?"

"I give you my word!" I yelped, feeling his lips kissing harshly on my neck, as my heart began to beat rapidly.

He paused for a second, "Your word is not good enough."

A loud scream escaped my lips, as I felt his fangs dig into my neck. It felt like he was ripping my throat out, and I chocked trying to plead for him to stop. My screams fell upon deaf ears. I began to pound against his chest, and he simply tugged me tightly against his body as he continued to dig his fangs deeper into my skin. I whimpered trying to twist my body out of his grip. It was just sheer pain. He was not drinking my blood like he did the first time. He was simply biting me- as deep and as hard as he could. My legs began to wobble, as I felt my vision spot. My neck was numbing, as I felt his fangs retract from my neck. He began to kiss the bite mark gently, and I hissed in pain, only to be ignored as he continued to pepper my neck with kisses.

Moments later he pulled back admiring his work, before he looked at me with a wide devilish smile, that still made me weak in the knees.

"Try to run now, Novienna. I dare you."
