Matthew 3: A Love Confession & What of your sister?
"If you don't understand how a women could both love her sister dearly and want to wring her neck at the same time, then you were probably an only child." ---Linda Sunshine
ELIZABETH
It was not my intention to hand my sister the company on a silver plate. Cecilia and I had worked hard to brew a plan. We would have done anything and everything to stop these two from getting married. I had found Cecilia more than eager to comply with my wishes.
I made sure everything was planned out and thought out before. The Halloween party was the right place to strike. My mom and Evelyn'm where in the kitchen when I overheard them talking. Cecilia was to set the plan into motion, but what happened afterward, change my mind on achieving what I wanted the most. My father'a word changed the coarse of my actions that night. I could no longer fight against the inevitable.
I went to my room to watched from the balcony as Cecilia made her way over to Matthew who regularly sat outside doing his work. She titled her head slightly in my direction as I gave her a nod to proceed.
"Hello Matthew," Cecilia sweet voice carried into the wind.
I could see his shoulder tense slightly at her sudden presents. "What is it now?"
Cc sat down next to him and scoffed. "Don't be mean Matt. I just wanted to see if you desired some company."
"Sorry, I didn't mean it like that. I've just been really busying that's all." His eye never once left the computer screen.
"Work getting to you?"
"Yea Father's been at it with me since the engagement."
Cecilia chuckled. "Hasn't it been like that since the beginning?"
Matthew stopped and laughed lightly alongside her, "Yea it has."
CC fidgeted with her rose pink dress, "So the real reason I was out here is because I wanted to ask you a question?"
"You just did," he smiled.
Cc nudged him playfully, "Seriously Matt."
"What is it then?"
Cecilia continued to fiddle with the dress. She paused and glance up at me before clearing her throat. "Are you in love with my sister?"
Matthew's fingers stopped for a second, "I proposed to her didn't I?"
"Matt," Cecilia warned.
Matthew signed, "I don't know."
Cecilia head titled further toward Matthew. My own couriosity got to me and I leaned forward too. "What do you mean by that?"
He sighed, "to be honest I don't know how I feel about your sister."
"How can you not since you asked for her hand?"
Matthew stopped his typing and took a long breath. His hand moved toward the black glasses. He pushed them up from the corner and stared above the laptop, toward the old Pepper tree in the backyard. "My father though it would be a good it idea to do so and I saw no reason to object. Look if marrying you sister gets me closer to inheriting my father's company as well as yours then I'll do it." Cecilia shook her head at Matthew as if trying to understand. "Well look at it from this perspective both our fathers work in the same industry and in recent years both companies have gain a fair amour of profit. Although we have lost some profitable project to each other, there are areas in which we have yet to touch. We may never be able to achieve this because individually we don't have the resources to do so. My father became aware of this many years ago and until recently proposed that I should marry into you family uniting the two companies."
