Spirit paced the hollow, rage and frustration still burning inside him from loosing the battle between BloodClan. He leaped down to visit his kits instead of dwelling on the past. They would have another chance. Ember greeted him at the entrance.
"Good morning Spirit," she smiled.
"I want to see the kits," Spirit replied more bluntly. Ember sighed and backed away. Three kits came tumbling out the den, Inferno and Raven in a play fight whilst Sky ran after them.
"Dad!" Inferno yelped cheerfully, looking up as he pinned Raven down. Spirit smiled warmly at him before turning sharply to Ember.
"Are they all healthy?" he asked.
"Yes. They're all doing great," Ember replied.
"Good. They will start their training soon," he informed her. They were about a moon and a half old now. He would be training them himself since no other cat seemed suitable. It was just then that he felt the vibration of rapid pawsteps. He looked round to see Dagger bounding over, eyes flickering.
"Leader!" Dagger called in a low tone.
"What is it?" Spirit asked, cocking his head in confusion.
"Remember how you made all those new rules last moon? Like the one about no one being able to say your proper name to show respect, or about how you were the only cat who could take a mate. Well Clover and Comet have been pretty close lately. Someone should keep an eye on them," Dagger warned.
"I see," Spirit growled ,"I want Rat in on this. He will be our spy since you have too many more important things to do. I want him to stick near and go on every patrol with them, understand?" Spirit ordered.
"Yes leader," Dagger dipped his head, turning towards Rat who was eating a scraggly looking wren at the corner of camp.
"Dad!" sharp claws suddenly dug into Spirit's tail. Wincing he turned to see Sky.
"Yes dear?" Spirit asked through gritted teeth. She released her grip.
"Will we ever be like Bat and Dart? Will we be leaders? Who will train us? When?" she asked, hopping with excitement. Raven and Inferno rushed over to hear his answers, their fur ruffled from the play fight.
"You will all become Kill Warriors and one of you will become leader after me. I'll make sure of it, and I will also be mentoring you," Spirit told them.
"Really? Which one of us will be leader?" Raven asked.
"You'll find out when you're all Kill Warriors," Spirit grinned.
"Me obviously," Inferno chuffed, puffing out his chest ,"I'm basically as good as Dagger already," he boasted.
"In your dreams!" Raven simpered ,"You'll have to beat me to it!" she smirked, tackling him to the ground.
"Stop arguing," Sky rolled her eyes ,"I'm clearly the only one here with the material of a real leader in me. All you two do is fight and squabble."
"No, it's just that you're a wimp!" Inferno snapped.
"That's enough now kits. It's nap time now," Ember told them, whisking them back into the den with her tail.
"Bye dad!" the kits called. Spirit gave a wave of his tail before turning away only to have his fur prick along his spine as he sees Comet lick Clover between the ears. Spirit let his burning gaze bear down on them until they caught his eye. Clover gasped and backed away. Comet ran to the other side of camp, head down. Spirit felt a growl rise in his throat. Clover was quite new. Her and her brother Ace had been loners and only three moons ago did they join KillClan. Maybe they were disloyal. Spirit would give them one more chance then they would be killed for their actions. It was the first rule any newcomer was told. If you are disloyal then you will be killed, no questions asked.
It was nearly sunfall when Spirit heard the border patrol return. A familiar looking two toms followed them, a burly grey tom and a white tom. Spirit raced over.
"It's Moon and Wolf from BloodClan," he heard a clanmate whisper. Of course! Those sly rats had torn their collars off to hide their identity.
"Well?" Spirit wanted to hear their pathetic excuse for being on KillClan land.
"You probably know who we are. We want to join your clan. Venom is acting... strange and we think this clan will suit us better. Spirit laughed maliciously. His cackle echoed rang through the clearing.
"You think you can just go to one clan and just decide to suddenly change? I'm no fool, I know a spy when I see one. Block the entrance," Spirit ordered, eyes glinting with a bloodthirsty glow. The two toms backed up. As cats gathered the clearing turned into a ring of cats, with Spirit and the two BloodClan spies in the centre of it.
"We aren't spies! We swear! We just want to join the clan!" Moon pleaded, eyes glittering with fear.
"Stop acting like I'm some naive kit who would actually believe your pitiful lies! Now you will pay for what you have tried to do," Spirit snarled, lunging forward, claws outstretched, barrelling into Wolf so he tumbled to the ground. He then raked his claws down his flank savagely, leaping onto his back and tearing his ears. Moon then hauled him off, claws tearing along his spine. Spirit yowled, kicking Moon and tackling him to the ground. He then bit down onto his arm and twisted it the wrong way until he heard a satisfying yowl of agony followed by a crack. Spirit then killed him with a bite to the throat before being thrown off by Wolf. He simply blinded him with a vicious swipe of his paws and pushed him to the ground.
"No!" Wolf spat, flailing around, trying to find Spirit. How pathetic. Spirit slashed his claws through the toms throat and then both of the spies were dead. Spirit washed the blood from his claws.
"Leave their bodies where the maggots will get them," Spirit ordered with a smirk, going back to his den as the sun dipped below the horizon.
