-CHAPTER FOUR-

I'VE HAD THE TIME OF MY LIFE

Music played in the packed nightclub, where Zach had taken Ann for their date. When she met up with him in the courtyard, she was relieved to find Zach standing there- and not some monster that took the form of Michael.

Ann was a little nervous, since this was her first date in a while- and Michael never took her to a place with this many people, and also this loud. Zach and Ann were seated at a table for dinner near the dance floor, and the music seemed to never stop as people kept on dancing from song-to-song. Ann watched them, her teal eyes darting back to Zach when he spoke to her.

"Are you alright, Ann? You seem a little tense..." Ann managed a half-assed smile.

"I'm fine, really..." Zach stared at her for a few seconds.

"I can tell you're lying, really..." He reached for her hand across the table, and gently touched it.

"What's wrong?" It was a comforting touch, so all Ann could do was sigh.

"Alright, you caught me... it's just been really hard these past two days."

"Is it because of Michael?" Ann looked up at Zach, and studied the expression on his face. She stared into his deep-blue eyes, which showed concern for her. His black hair was slicked back out of his face, so she could she every detail of his eyebrows being raised, waiting for the silence she had cast to be broken by her words. One corner of his mouth was up, while the other waited for Ann's response before willing to go up like the other.

"Actually, it is..."

"Do, you... want to talk about?" Ann was surprised, she thought Zach would try to keep their dinner conversation off of Michael. But, when she saw the other corner of his mouth go up to form a full smile, she could only smile back at him.

"Yeah, maybe..." Zach lightly grabbed one of Ann's hand into his.

"Alright Ann, I'm all ears..." Ann let out a deep breath, and she could feel her heart start to race. She was getting nervous, but she managed to stammer out what was on her mind.

"You see Zach, Michael and I didn't just date for a few months... him and I... we had something special at one point. To the point that..." Ann looked at Zach's face, preparing for the worst with what she was about to tell him next.

"To the point that... we had sex together, shortly after you graduated and left..." Ann was expecting to find a look of distaste on Zach's face, but his nice demeanor never left.

"Oh, I see... go on." Ann was surprised yet again, but continued to speak.

"That's why it's been hard for the both of us, but it seems that he's taking it harder for the fact that I've decided to move on and not just continue where we left off... he can't seem to do the same, even after a few years... he wasn't like this back in high school after we broke up, I really don't know what's wrong with him..." Ann looked down, only to have Zach seem to tighten his hold on her hand. She looked up at him again, and he still had the same smile plastered onto his face.

"I can only tell you Ann, that Michael will have to get over it sometime..." His grip tightened even more.

"Because, I think I'm falling for you... and hard, too, and I don't want another guy to have your heart, because I want to be able to have the chance with you..." Ann started smiling, soon matching the spotlight smile that Zach had on his face.

"Really?"

"Yes, really... I hope it's not too soon for me to say that to you..."

"It's not, it couldn't have come at a better time actually..."
