-PROLOGUE-
The breeze brought a coldness to the night air early in the year of 1981, as two young college kids walked the campus grounds by the light of the moon. Their feet brought them to the college's courtyard, and they sat down firmly on the bench that was there.
Flowers were just starting to bloom again, the signs of winter slowly fading from the scenery once again. The young boy gently picked one of the flowers, and placed it in the hands of the girl.
She smiled, and looked down to see the boy weaving his fingers through hers. She looked up, and saw that the boy was smiling.
"I love you..." He had said it so cooly, so sure of the words he just spoke that it brought a blush onto the girl's face.
"I love you, too..." She had never been so sure of anything in her life, it felt so right. After all that she had been through with a guy in her past, she definitely knew that this was different. This guy treated her right, and had loved her with everything he had. The silence she had brought onto the conversation raised concern with the boy.
"Anything wrong?" She grasped his hand even more, and curled her red lips into a even bigger smile.
"Not at all..." His smile soon matched hers, and he soon fell headlong into her eyes as he leaned in to kiss her. They soon were just sitting there kissing, so into each other that the world around them just seemed to fade away.
But, the world wasn't so kind.
The sound of footsteps soon came to where the two were. A figure stood in the dark, a gun raised and pointed at the young boy. A shot rang out, and the boy turned just in time to see his fate. The bullet ripped through his shirt, and was lodged into his chest. The girl watched in horror as he bleed out, and she didn't know what she could do. She felt helpless, the man she loved was dying right in front of her.
"Rhea... I... I love... you..." He was gripping his chest as blood poured from the gunshot wound, life leaving his body even more with each passing second and each word that managed to pass his lips.
"Don't die... please, don't die! I'll get help, just please..."
"Rhea..." He closed his eyes, and he ceased to breath or have a heartbeat.
He was dead.
The girl had tears fogging her vision, she couldn't see or even think straight. It had all happened so fast, he was taken away from her in a matter of minutes.
The sound of the same footsteps soon were heard again, walking over to where they had just made blood spill. The girl looked up, and could make out the figure of a man standing right over her.
"I told you, you wouldn't be forgetting about me..." The girl prepared for the worst, she prepared to soon join her lover in the afterlife.
But, it never came.
The footsteps disappeared in the other direction, soon no longer being heard in the cold and now still night. The girl looked down at the flower that was in her hand, and she soon just couldn't stop the tears. She looked at her lover's lifeless body, and placed the flower on his chest.
"I won't ever forget about you, but I will still continue to forget about him... you're the only man to ever have my heart, and now you'll always be on my mind. You're in my heart, and on my mind, forever..." She gently kissed his lips one last time, before running away from the scene to seek help.
Soon, the flowers of many passing seasons will come and go to cover the tragedy of that night, but the boy's spirit will not as easily put it to rest, as fifteen and a half years pass...
