Alissyanna POV

From our spot on the roof, we could see everything. People had piled into boats with far too many other people, others were racing along the foot paths to attempt to outrun the beast, and the most desperate were swimming amongst the boats. Bard looked at me, his face said it all, he was worried for the little ones.

"Fear not, Master Bowman, they are in good hands, my companions will not allow harm to come to them."

"DOWN!" I was tackled from the roof, landing with a splash in the water. When I surfaced, I watched the roof go up into flames. Bard surfaced just beside me, Vivi between the pair of us.

"Here!" Jay offered us her hand from the dock.

"No harm done, huh?" I looked at him sheepishly, offering an awkward smile.

"Bard, Bain said you had an arrow, we need to find it." Jay hoisted Vivi up to the dock.

"We'll have to split up, it's in a boat." He turned in circles, trying to orient himself among the flames.

"On a lake, with hundreds of boats, real fucking helpful." Vivianetta snarked.

"You two go." I pointed at Jay and Bard. "You'll need a distraction. Viv, you're with me." Jay and Bard raced back towards the jail, hoping to retrace his steps.

"Just like old times?" Vivi asked from beside me as we took off in the other direction.

"Exactly like old times."

BILBO POV

The flames grew higher into the night. The company had gathered outside on the rampart, where we had a good view of the destruction of Laketown. I felt as though I was going to be violently ill.

"What have we done?" I muttered hoarsely to myself.

"Poor souls." I heard Balin sniff behind me.

"There is nothing we can do for them now." I whipped around to face Dwalin, intent on shouting at him until I saw his face. Blue eyes brimmed with tears, a look of helplessness about him that made my stomach drop past my feet.

"There isn't." A cold voice sounded behind us. "We must find the Arkenstone."

"Thorin, people are dying," I tried to reason.

"People die everyday." He turned, heading back towards the treasure hoard.

"People die everyday." Balin breathed, his face contorted with disbelief... or was it disgust?

I turned back to watched the havoc before me. Something was off though. The dragon was rising into the air, his movements were slow, sloppy, as if he'd forgotten how to fly. Then he stilled, hanging momentarily in the air like a statue. Suddenly, his body went limp and he fell.

"He-he's been hit!" I shouted at the retreating backs of the company. "He fell I saw it! It's dead! Smaug is dead."

"By my beard, he's right, look!" Everyone's eyes turned up, watching a swarm of Ravens high above them. "The Ravens are returning to the mountain!" Balin looked back towards Laketown.

ALISSYANNA POV

Gasping for air, I clung to the side of the boat, Bofur had the back of my shirt, ensuring that I didn't drown. Vivi and Jay were soaring over, Sigrid and Tilda in their arms. They returned them to their father, bowing in respect, and meeting us back at the boat.

Hauling myself back into the boat, I quickly wrapped my arms around myself, waiting for any movement from my little secret. It took a long moment, but an annoyed kick against my stomach sent me into orbit with relief.

"Ali." I looked to Kili, who could only grin tiredly.

"Rest, you need it." He nodded, leaning against me heavily as I began checking his wound.

"It was Tauriel." I looked at Vivi, she nodded to the wound. I rebound it and pulled the afghan about Kili's shoulders. His brother was occupied by a Jay, their steamy 'we almost died' kiss was about to turn much dirtier if Bofur hadn't knocked them over their heads with his hat. Vivi began enforcing a two foot rule between them, causing the boat to rock and the first sign of laughter since the battle to echo over the water.

Things were beginning to look up for the first time in days, and it was a refreshing feeling.
