Chapter 3 Czarina
My sister had been supportive of me, no matter what I got myself into.
Marianne was born with the fire gift, while I had nothing. I was a little envious, well at first. After hearing about all the intense training, I had decide that I was glad I was non-gifted.
My training was learning to become a loyal wife and mother.
Marianne was happy training to be a Phoenix. She was elder than me, and had this strong presence about her.
She may have the power, and the skills of a warrior, but I had always been the lady, the drop dead gorgeous one. Marianne wasn't what you called pretty. She had more of an elegance about her. Her beauty shone through. My beauty on the other hand, had my father beating off the boys with a club. Not my father's favorite past time, but he did it.
It was the summer Marianne was officially recognized as a Phoenix. I was waiting for her to come and talk to me at the festival after the ceremony. I was walking towards the outskirts of the crowd when I tripped. Right into the arms of the most handsome man. I had never seen him before.
Later I learned his name was Varian, a few years later I decided to find him. Marianne helped me find Varian, and we learned he was a Dragon.
At first Marianne liked the man I had chosen. Then the rumors started. We learned that they were very true. So I left Varian.
Marianne and I, a few weeks later, found out I was with child. Then Marianne began to be hunted. She smuggled me out and was captured. Marianne, six months later was executed. No less by hellfire.
Before I last saw her, Marianne told me I carried a girl, a Phoenix and to name her Jaynaria.
I trust my sister, so there must be a reason to have told me that. And I don't dare question it. Marianne died for Jay to be brought into this world.
Marianne would be proud of Jay. Jay is beautiful, headstrong, powerful, intelligent, witty and very much good-hearted.
She has some of her father in her. For that I am very much glad of.
She is the balance between my sister and I. She is a Phoenix, self taught to use her gifts. She uses them when she thinks I'm not looking.
I love my daughter.
Hopefully Varian won't realize that the last and most powerful Phoenix is alive.
Jay will be turning 17 in four days. She will need that quiet strength and confidence in the future. Especially dealing with her father and the Council.
She needs to explore the world, to fall in love. She needs to carve a place for the Phoenixes again and kill Varian.
Jaynaria, my daughter, you must be strong for the coming years. May the stars watch you and may they guide your path, my little Jay. My little Phoenix. With fiery red hair and emerald green eyes. Be prepared Jaynaria. Marianne watch over her.
I sighed and began the walk back to the cottage.
