Chapter 20 Czarina

Never before had I been so angry.

I was fuming at Turin.

That bastard refused to teach Jay control for fear of Varian finding her.

He would find her eventually. And she needed that control, now.

I stormed my way through the streets to my home. I wasn't really paying attention to where I was going and who was around me, as my mind was somewhere else.

I ran right into a rock solid chest.

I froze.

I had run into someone, a man.

I pulled my head out the clouds and looked straight up into his face. The smirk was clear, as was the features.

A man I once knew, and was friends with. The man who helped betray my sister to Varian. Nathienal.

Someone jerked my head back harshly and a smell I remembered too well filled my nostrils. A blanket of darkness abruptly covered my eyes.

When I next awoke, a smell of rotting flesh made me gag.

My eyelids felt heavy and my vision was foggy.

My hands felt heavy for some odd reason. I look to my hands and noted the chains, a cold alloy of star metal and asteroid metal, incase I had developed any elemental abilities.

I glanced around the cell.

The floor was of dirt and small rocks. The cell door was a wooden door with metal bars.

I raked my eyes over the walls when a carved phrase jumped into view.

'Heaven and Hell can not touch Her, nor control Her.'

I looked around, spotting more.

'She shall be the equal of Them. They shall tremble at Her might. The incarnation of the Earth Herself. No man alive shall hold power over Her. Only He, Her soul partner, can be Her equal. Heaven and Hell shall be joined in the power of the Universe by Earth and two shall be three, balance shall be restored. Heavenly Good. Hellish Evil. Earthly Neutrality. She shall rise in power, and be the soul of Earth and of Neutrality. Just like They are the soul of Heaven and Good and of Hell and Evil. The Earth was born of Fire. As shall She again in Mortal form. She shall be the Pure Phoenix.'

That was a passage from the Book of Earth.

The Book was protected and all of the elementals had heard and read through it.

My eyes widen.

This was Marianne's favorite passage. The only one she knew by heart.

This had been Marianne's cell, some 17 years ago. The cell my elder sister had lived in before her death. Before Varian murdered her.

I had no idea how long I stared at the walls with tears in my eyes. All I knew is that footsteps broke me out of my mourning.

That sorrow turned raging fury.

Nathienal walked into my cell along with a few knights.

Capital Knights. They cleared a path.

Nathienal bowed to my visitor.

"My lord."

The one man I despised beyond doubt, was in my cell room and the man who ordered my captured. The man I loathed to call husband. The murderer of my sister.

Varian.
