Chapter 6 Gareth
For as long as I can remember, my family had been in the Capital and been knights. My great grandfather six times removed was granted a Barony not to far from the Capital. All of the men in the family trained as knights. And I was no exception. Father had insisted I follow tradition.
I had a minor water gift. My sister, Hannalyruel, has a strong earth gift. She joined the Sisterhood of the Unicorns.
Hanna is the only person who understood I wanted to be an adventurer, to travel the world and fall in love. Instead, here I am stuck as a page traveling to a mountain village called Caimo. Boring. And there wasn't any bandits or outlaws. Just checking up on the security of the village.
I slouched even lower in my saddle.
Darion, the blue-black mare I rode, pranced a little to the left. I quickly got her under control.
Ewan, the knight closest to me, glance at me.
"Gareth, quit slouching. I know you are bored, but maybe we'll get to see some pretty village maids." Ewan winked at me.
I felt my face flush.
Ewan chuckled. "Don't get all embarrassed on me boy. Don't think I have noticed you eyeing a few of the servant girls back home."
I flushed even brighter.
Sure, Shania, the really cute blonde kitchen hand was attractive and worth the quick tumble in the hay, but Ewan didn't have to keep teasing me about it!
Ewan chuckled again. "Alright lad I'll stop. For now."
I groaned.
Turin, the Knight Captain, held up his hand. The procession halted.
I craned my head to see Caimo.
It wasn't a village. It was more like a clearing of homes and buildings spread across the entire length of it. I saw a path on the far end of Caimo. It probably lead to some hermit's home.
I snorted.
This was already a long boring month. That much I can tell.
Briefly I wondered if they was any cute village maids that wouldn't mind a tumble in the hay with a knight to be.
A flash of red drew me out of my thoughts.
I glanced at the path I has noted early as a trail to a hermit. There was the most gorgeous girl. With bright red hair.
She skipped down the path to a small cottage near it. I saw next to the cottage was a barn and a garden. She paused before the door and then walked into the cottage. As she disappeared from my sight, I wondered who she was and if she the mayor's daughter.
