Chapter 10 Jaynaria
I took a deep breath.
Mother had finished helping me apply the cosmetics and do my hair.
I shifted the skirt of my dress.
It was surprisingly light weight. The rich blue fabric was silk and satin. Beautiful material.
I wondered where and how Mother got these royal fabrics.
I brushed one of the thick red ringlets out if my eyes. I sighed and sat down.
Normally, for a girl of Caimo's coming of age festival, her father would escort her to the main square. Since my father was not here and no one knew who it was, I would be escorted by a family friend.
A knock sounded on the cottage door.
I rushed to it and opened the door to find Zurich, the town guard captain, standing.
A huge grin came on my face.
Zurich had been an father to me. He had been there to praise me and teach me. Zurich had also kept me busy so Mother could do things with worrying about me.
Zurich's eyes widen when he saw me in my festival gown. "Jay! You look amazing! You are definitely a heart stealer." Zurich smiled and winked.
I felt my checks flush.
Zurich chuckled. "Are you ready little Ria?"
The old nickname embarrassed me. Nowadays I was Jay. Ria had been back before I was 11.
Zurich offered his arm. I smiled warmly at him and took it.
We began to walk to the main square.
