Chapter 37
Damons POV
I was still in this cell when I noticed Elena in the cell next to me. She was lying on the floor unconscious.
"Come on, Elena. Wake up." I talked to myself. Then Elena suddenly groans. She pulls herself up(so she's sitting down) and looks around. Then her eyes catch mine.
"Hey." I said to her.
"Damon?" She said before scrambling towards the gate in which we were speaking through. "Are you..."
"I'm fine. Wes injected you with vervain. Maybe when it wears off, we'll be able to break through these." I say cutting her of an trying to break through the bars.
"What the hell is going on? Why are you here? Why am I here?" She asked confused.
"Wes is carrying out the grand Augustine tradition. Getting his kicks off vampire torture." I told her.
"Did he tell you that?" She asked. Here's where all the truth comes out. Joy! Not. The past should stay in the past, but no Elena has to know everything. She won't stop until she gets an answer.
"He didn't have to. I've been here before." I unraveled to her. She looks at me with concern written all over her face. So I explained it to her.
"Someone in my family sold me out to the Augustines in 1953. Every day, this nut job Dr. Whitmore tortured us, cut into us, took pieces of our eyes out, pushed us to every limit he could imagine."
I said as I relived memory's of my limbs being ripped of one by one when I was here before.
"He had quite the imagination." I finished wanting to end all the flashbacks.
"Kept me in this very cell, and don't think I haven't appreciated the irony." I grunted at her. I was getting extremely weak, and I don't like it.
"How long were you here?" Se asked.
"5 years, give or take." I told her. May as well tell her the truth.
"Damon, how did you not go crazy?" She asked. I smirked.
"Believe it or not, I made a friend."Unknown cell, 1953
I was thrown into the cell. I looked up menacingly at Dr. Whitmore. I really hate him right now and I would happily rip him to shreds.
Then I heard a voice next to me and I snapped my head in his direction. It was a man in the cell next to me.
"Welcome. Dr. Whitmore never gets tired of watching us vampire heal, but he gives us one glass of blood per day, just enough to keep us alive. Pick yourself up, soldier. My name's Enzo." He said handing me his hand through the bars that split us apart. I shook it."He was a soldier in Europe during World War II." I told Elena.
"How did he end up here?" She asked.
"Dr. Whitmore was working in a battlefield hospital when he discovered Enzo was a vampire, so he drugged him, locked him in a coffin to ship him overseas." I told her.Unknown cell 1953
I chugged down my glass of blood. The sweet taste held fresh in my mouth for about 3 seconds before I wanted more. I needed more.
"You're doing it wrong.You're living for the moment. You need to live for the future." Enzo said taking a small sip of his glass of blood.
"What future?" I spat annoyed about being stuck in here.
"The one where you get your revenge. For instance, in my future, my revenge will start with killing Whitmore's dog and mailing it to his house postage due." Enzo smirked. "Go on. Picture your revenge. Use your imagination."
I smirked. I had the perfect revenge. I sat up and grabbed a rock from the floor. Then I started to carve, with the rock, on the wall.
" I can see it." I said.I pulled myself back to reality as I looked towards Elena.
"Damon, Wes knew my dad. They worked together. He said that my dad was an Augustine, too. I know that my dad was a vampire hunter, but he was also the town doctor. He was kind and gentle and loving. He wouldn't be part of a place that would cut your eyes out." Elena asked.
"People are full of surprises." I said as Elena curled up into a ball and buried her head in her knees.
"Oh, hey,"I said,"I am so, so sorry I got you caught up in this."I reached for her hand between the bars.
"Hey. Look at me. Hey," I began as she looked up. "But I promise you I will get you out of here, ok? Ok?" I said as she held my hand tightly.
" I'll get you out of here." I told her as she lets out a small smile.~~~
Ariana's POV
We all looked down at the safe. Stefan had just got in there and I could already tell he was panicking.
"Caroline! Do you even know what you're doing?" Stefan's muffled voice say.
"Yes. Well, it's in my textbook." She replied, flicking through her textbook.
"Let me find it." Caroline said flicking through new pages. I look over to Katherine. She was watching Caroline with crossed arms. But I could help but notice her curious but mischievous expression on her face.
"Have you two ever, um ...ahem ...you know?" Katherine asks as she paces towards Caroline. I sighed as I blocked them out and focused on Stefan instead. He was ok, for now. Then I snapped back to reality when I heard Caroline start blabbing on about goodness knows what?
"In vivo exposure gradually introduces elements of prior trauma, e.g. physical objects, comma, certain aspects of duress, comma..."she said. I ignored her and listened to Stefan who I could tell was beginning to freak out.
"Okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Got it, got it, got it." Katherine says snapping Caroline's book shut.
"Stop talking. The words that are coming out of your mouth are giving me a headache." I had to agree with Katherine there. Then I heard Stefan's breathing become heavier and quicken.
"Caroline! Caroline!" I heard him shout. I looked over it Caroline who replied.
"I'm just trying to help Stefan understand what I'm doing."
"Acting like a school teacher isn't going to make him feel any better." I heard them argue. Thats when I heard someone hit the sides of the safe. Stefan was hitting the sides of he safe. My head began to spin. I stumbled backwards as images began to flash in my head. Darkness, nothing else, I was trapped. Dirt poured in the box I was trapped in. No, it was a coffin. It was the night I was buried. I banged and banged in the lid of the coffin. Then I snapped back to reality. I began coughing and coughing. Then I began to cough out dirt. More and more dirt.
"Aria are you ok?" Caroline asked walking up towards me.
"Omg! Ariana! What's wrong?!" She asked. She had obviously just seen the dirt all over the floor. I stumbled back.
"Go away! Leave me alone!" I said as I sprinted out of the room and out the house. I couldn't take it anymore.~~~
Caroline POV
She sprinted out of the house at the speed of light. I turned round to Katherine and asked.
"Should we go after her? Will she be ok?" Katherine looked up I my direction and replied.
"She'll be fine." That's all she said. Really?! I mean we just saw her cough up dirt. That's not normal.
"But she was coughing up dirt. That's not ..." But she cut me of.
" she'll be fine! Ok? The best thing you can do is give her space!" She snapped at me. I nodded my head as she carried on.
"Ok, back to Stefan. You were right about one thing. He needs to get over the root of his problem. 'Cause right now the score if safe - one, Stefan - zero. So how do you help the guy that always comes to the rescue? Stefan's the hero. That's who he is at his core. He can't always come through for himself, but he can always come through for everyone else." Then Katherine gives an evil smile and continues.
"I've got an idea."
~~~
Ariana's POVI sat on the roof of the house. I had finished coughing up dirt now. But the flashbacks hadn't stopped. The pain of the memory's hurt as I screamed. Smash! I looked down, I had broken the window beneath me. I think it was the window in Stefan's room. Damn it! You need to get control. Then my head hurt. More flashbacks played in my head.
I heard something hit the top of the coffin. I started screaming louder so that whoever it was could hear me. After about another 5 minutes the coffin opened. Pain surged through my body as I tried to sit up and failed. I looked up and saw Elijah, Beka, Dad and.... Nick.
Tears swelled up in my eyes. Nick... I missed him. I know I had acted strong all day but he truth was, I was still weak inside. Anger and sadness boiled inside of me as the memory's came to an end. I was mad at my dad and sad that I had lost Nick. Suddenly I felt rain droplets fall on my face. I looked up and there was a full on storm going on. What?! But it was only sunny a minute ago. I stood up just as lighten flashed a few feet away and then heard some thunder. I backed up. I looked up to the sky and saw clouds swirling and the wind was howling. The sun was gone, there was no warmth left.
"Stop! How do I stop it!" I shouted up at the sky. But nothing happened. Tears poured out of my eyes as lightening flashed all around me.
"What have I done! STOP! please..." I beg but I know it's not going to do anything.
"Aria..." I hear a voice say behind me. A very familiar voice. Wait a minute it's Nicks voice. I turned around and he was standing there. I ran towards him carful not to slip and hugged him. He hugged me back.
"Ssshhh... Are you ok?" He asked. I stopped crying and looked around. The storm had stopped and it all looked normal again.
" I'm fine." I said. He then leaned in and kissed me. I had missed him so much.*
