Chapter Five

Chapter Five: Escape.

Katherine couldn’t see clearly. Everything was blurry and spinning, making her sick so she shut her eyes.

Katherine could only hear. She heard faint alarms, from what? She couldn’t understand, she heard the nervous quick footsteps that belonged to the scientist in her room.

Katherine was confused, what was happening?

Was there a hoard?

Then she heard the door burst open, she heard the loud clatter of metal, frantic footsteps, something metal fall and hit something else.

But Katherine was too weak, too exhausted to open her eyes.

She could hear talking, but not distinctive words.

Then a hand brushed away the hair on her forehead, a soft familiar voice whispered her name.

Katherine forced her eyes to flutter open, and they did until she caught sight of Thomas. She furrowed her brows, what was he doing? If they hadn’t let him visit before why now?

“Thomas?” She whispered in confusion, Thomas smiled and gave her a kiss on her forehead before pulling off the cords and wires attached to her.

“What are y-you doing here?” She asks, her voice hoarse. Thomas gazed at her for a moment then he shook his head.

With the help of Newt and Thomas, Katherine stepped off the bed and stood steadily on her feet.

Katherine watched as Thomas and Minho grabbed a stool and broke the large window, she looked behind her and see the others in a hurry to get out through the window.

Newt laid a blanket over the glass that was still on the window, and grabbed Katherine’s small cold hand and pulled her gently but quickly.

Katherine stopped abruptly and looked towards the scientist, Dr. Crawford was holding her bag of privates.

In there, were things she managed to conserve.

Chuck’s totem, her little brother’s stuffed animal, her father’s necklace, her real mother’s ring. Everything valuable to her.

She walks back and grabs it from her, then Newt grabs her arm gently again and pulls her towards the window where Thomas awaited on the other side with open arms.

“Come on.” Thomas says and looks behind him then back at Katherine.

With the help of Newt, Katherine jumped into Thomas’s arms, he sets her down next to him gently.

Thomas turns around when he set her down and catches something that Winston tossed him.

“Thomas, what’s happening?” Katherine asks over the loud alarms, he looked at her then pressed a short kiss on her lips.

“Okay, Katherine, I hope you know that I love you too much to actually be healthy and that I would never hide anything from you and if I did then you’d be able to tell and also I just wanted to say that you look absolutely beautiful and I love you so—” Katherine narrowed her eyes at Thomas while he rambled quickly.

Katherine didn’t have time for Thomas’s BS.

Katherine snatched the Launcher from his hands and pointed it at him. “Thomas. What’s happening?”

“Oh my. . . Okay—Okay, looks, just point the gun elsewhere. . . I’m gonna open the door, okay? Stay behind me.” He tries to grab the Launcher but her finger hover over the trigger threateningly.
