Chapter Ten: Astraphobia.

The seven teenagers walk endlessly through the scorch, the sun had grown hotter and the teens had taken measures to avoid being burnt by the sun.

Thomas and Katherine both shared a blanket to avoid the sun’s harsh UV rays. Minho and Diana shared a blanket like the pair of lovers in the front and Newt, Frypan, and Aris use the hoods of their jackets.

After a couple of more miserable hours the sun starts to set. And the seven surviving teens decided to stop and rest.

Katherine watches the others lay on the ground, too tired to pull out their sleeping bags.

Katherine sits cross legged on the ground next to Newt, he lies down and looks at her with a smile.

“You’re not gonna sleep?” He asks and rests his head on his arm, she stares at him and shakes her head.

“I will. . . When I get tired. . .” She shrugs and Newt scoffs while closing his eyes.

“Walking in the hot scorch for endless hours didn’t make you tired?”

“Yeah, but not enough to make me wanna sleep.”

“That’s bull—”

“C’mere, Kathy,” Thomas mumbled— practically grumbled— tiredly while grabbing Katherine and pulling her closer to him.

“If you’re not gonna sleep then be my cute little teddy bear,” He mumbled into her shoulder.

“Let go of me! I don’t wanna be your teddy.” Katherine grumbled and wiggled in Thomas’s arms.

“Teddy bears don’t talk, shush.” He muttered sleepily, then he jumped back while holding his wrist. “Ow! And they don’t bite either!”

Katherine pouted and crossed her arms like a pouty little kid. Thomas crawled over to Katherine and leaned onto her, then he leaned his weight forward on her until they fell back, him on top of her.

“Thomas! You freaking hippopotamus, you’re crushing me!”

“Oh, just be quiet and be my teddy bear.”

They stayed like that for a while, Thomas on top of Katherine while she just laid underneath him, not saying anything. To be honest, Thomas kinda liked this. Her not being mean to him was. . . Nice.

After a while, Katherine’s arms were getting numb. So, she gently nudged him away but he suddenly circled his arms around her in a tight embrace. She let out a silent gasp when she felt his hot breath on her exposed neck.

“Thomas, I need to pee. . .” She lied weakly.

Thomas grumbled in disapproval, but his arms never let go. Instead, he hugged her tighter and snuggled his head under her chin.

Watching him like this made ber imagine him being a baby.

A overgrown baby.

“I know you’re lying.” He mumbled. “Let’s just stay like this. . .”

She hesitantly put her hand in his head and played with his hair. His hair was so soft. . .

“Thomas, get up.”

“Five more minutes.”

“Thomas, you’re crushing me. And you’re crushing my chest. If I can’t breathe then I can die, we don’t want that do we? So, get off of me and let me breathe.”

Silence.

“Thomas?”

Then, she heard the soft snores coming out of his mouth that was against her neck.
