Chapter Nine: Pervert.

They all sit by a campfire, Diana laying down next to Minho staring at the flickering cracking fire.

Everyone stays silent, all lost in their thoughts. Until Frypan speaks up in a quiet voice.

“Weren’t we supposed to be immune?” He asks.

“Not everyone. . . Some of us are immune. . . Others aren’t. . .” Diana says, they all glance at her but she continues to stare at the fire blankly. “At least that’s what I believe. . .”

“If Winston can get infected then that means so can we. . .” Newt glances at Katherine briefly before scratching his jaw with the back of his index finger.

An odd habit he does when he’s nervous, or worried about something.

Frypan stays quiet for a long moment after hearing that, “I didn’t think I’d ever say it but. . . It was much better back at the compound. . . With WICKED.” He whispers, a lone tear rolling down his cheek.

Katherine glances over at Thomas, who glanced up at Frypan briefly with a small nod and looked back at his hands.

Katherine watches as he gets up and walks away, Katherine looks at Newt then begins to get up as well.

But Newt shakes his head, “Hey, I’ll talk to him. . . I’ll give him some—some Newt Wisdom.” He smiles slightly, Newt gets up and walks over to Thomas.

Katherine watches him walk off, and she saw them go back and forth for a while then she rest her head on her arms and closes her eyes.

Katherine blinks open her eyes and looks around, she realizes she’s laying next Thomas, his back facing her.

She stares at his back for a moment before rolling on her own to stare at the dark sky.

And I’ll use you as a warning sign. . .” She mumbles quietly. “That if you talk enough sense then you’ll lose your mind.”

And I’ll use you as a focal point. . .” Katherine continues to mumble the song quietly, being careful not to awake the others. “So I don’t lose sight of what I want. And I’ve moved further than I thought I could. But I missed you more than I thought I would. . .”

And I’ll use you as a warning sign. That if you talk enough sense then you’ll lose your mind.”

“And I found love where it wasn’t supposed to be. Right in front of me. Talk some sense to me. . .”

Katherine lets out a breath and glanced over at Thomas, “I found love where it wasn’t supposed to be. . . In a maze with me.”

She scooted a bit closer to him.

Maybe Siggy’s right. . .

Katherine sighs and a cold breeze blew over her and she shivered and then moved over so much that her body pressed up against his warm one.

‘Is it better back in the WICKED compound? At least there Winston would still be alive.’

Katherine closes her pale eyes and lets out a small breath against Thomas’s back before moving even closer and burying her face in his back.

When Thomas woke up, he was feeling very warm with something tickling his nose.
