Chapter Seven: Cranks.
“Hey, Kate. . .” Diana says as soon as she sees her sister appear next to Newt.
“Hey, Diana,” She replies and walks behind her sister, she draped her arm over Diana’s throat and let her chin rest on Diana’s head. “So, what’re you up to?”
Diana shrugged and squinted her brown eyes at the photo she was holding, Katherine lifted her flashlight and pointed it at the picture.
It was a dusty picture of a three kids, two girls one boy. The oldest girl had blonde hair and blue eyes, and was hugging the younger kids closer while smiling at the camera, showing off her missing two front teeth.
The other girl was a bit younger with dark hair and equally as dark eyes, she was giving a small, closed-lipped smile, while holding onto the older girl’s hand with both small hands.
Then the youngest boy had blonde hair and big bright blue eyes, he was hugging a teddy bear with a huge grin on his face.
The two siblings stare at the picture, Diana’s eyes graze over at all three happy faces, but Katherine’s eyes stay glued to the little boy.
“Hey, Kitty!” A little boy with chocolate brown hair and a excited pair of bright blue eyes squeals while jumping on his older sister.
The little boy reminded Katherine so much of her brother, her dead brother.
Why him?
He would still be alive if it weren’t for Katherine. Yes, Katherine blames herself for the death of her little brother.
And if Diana remembered, she’d surely blame her too.
“Wake up, Kitty! Wake up, wake up, wake up!” He says, shaking her. His older sister smiles and pulls her brother down next to her.
He squeaks and giggles, “Kitty!”
“Shush, Kitty wants to sleep,” She murmurs while hugging her brother closer, like her personal teddy bear.
Right after his death, she was left with this crippling hollow void inside that penetrated every fragment of her existence.
It’s her fault. Her brother died. It’s her fault. She failed her father. It’s her fault.
But then she met Thomas, Newt, Minho, Alby. . . And Chuck. . .
They all filled that void in her heart in their own odd wacky ways.
“Where did you guys go?” Diana murmurs, her thumb brushing across their faces, making Katherine blink away her thoughts.
Diana puts the picture back and pulled out of Katherine’s hold, she started walking while Katherine stood there. She grabbed the picture and stuffed it in her pockets, then she followed the others.
