Chapter 11: Thrill of the ride

Mara

The intensive ringing of my phone jolted me awake. I groaned in annoyance. Who would be calling me at 7 a.m. on a Sunday? Whoever it is better have a damn good explanation for waking me up. Perhaps a fire or a robbery or I won the lottery would just about do it.

"It's 7 on a Sunday. What is your purpose?!" I snapped at the person on the other end of the line.

"Get up we're going somewhere." Kyle's smooth and smug voice announced and I planted my face on my pillow.

"Are you joking?! I thought it was an emergency." I scolded him and I could hear him chuckling. I could practically see his smug smirk from the other side of the conversation. He's been tutoring me going on for a month now and we'be been hanging out a lot lately.

"Just get your lazy ass up, stud. I will not allow you to lie around on a perfectly good day." he admonished me and I groaned very loudly. I was about to get up when my door creaked open. My mom and dad came through looking worried. My mouth fell slack and my eyes were probably bulging out of their sockets.

"Mom? Dad?" I gasped. I was at a loss for words. They didn't tell me they were coming home at all. Did Trav know? He would've told me.

"Mara? Are you okay?" Kyle's voice boomed out of the phone that I forgot was in my hand. I brought the phone back to my ear whilst still looking at my parents, making sure they were really here.

"Um, I have to...I've gotta go, Kyle. I'll be ready in an hour. See you later." I stuttered and hung up before he even had the chance to answer.

"Daddy, what are you doing here?" I asked my dad and he came over to sit beside me. He enveloped me in a warm and tight hug. I put my arms around him and relax in his embrace.

"I missed my twins. And I want to spend some time with them." Dad stated and I smiled into his shoulder.

"I missed you too, Daddy. When did you get back?" I asked him.

"We flew in at 1 in the morning. You were asleep so we didn't bother you. Trav knows that we're here. He was still awake by the time we arrived." he explained but I didn't really care. I was just happy that they were back.
