Chapter 20: My friend is my enemy
Kyle
It's been days. Days. Since I last talked to and saw her. And let me tell you, it has been hell. I missed the sound of her voice, her disarming smile, her piercing sapphire eyes and her smooth copper locks. She's been avoiding my calls and texts. I've been trying so hard to refrain from going to see her because I knew that she needed space. I'm such an idiot. I let my emotions get the best of me and I shocked her. I gave no warning as I claimed her luscious Cupid's bow shaped lips with mine. It's just that I couldn't help it anymore and I wanted her to be mine.
I really tried to dismiss my feelings against my better judgement. I didn't want to ruin our great relationship by betraying Randy and worse, confusing Mara. I could see it in her eyes that night. She was so confused that she seemed to be on the verge of a panic attack. She was having warring feelings between Randy and I. I was glad that she did after all have feelings for me but I was bummed that I had to share half of those feelings with my cousin. Ever since we were children, Randy and I have always been competitive towards each other and even now that he's passed, we were going toe to toe with our biggest competition yet. The competition for Mara's undivided love.
As soon as I pull into my parking space, I see Bree making her way towards me. I brace myself for a good scolding. If ever there was an award for Most Loyal BFF, Bree would be the awardee. I take off my helmet and shake out my flat hair. I happen to know for a fact that Mara likes my hair messy. And I aim to please her.
"Okay, mister. You'd better spill. Where is Mara?" she bombarded me as soon as my foot hit the pavement. I was a little confused with her question because I didn't know where Mara was at the moment.
"Isn't she with you? You two always walk to class together." I pointed out and she gave me a deadly glare. I shifted uncomfortably under her searing gaze.
"Don't play dumb, Kyle. I haven't seen her for days since Prom. She has been skillfully and annoyingly avoiding my texts and calls. So, I know something's up with her. And you're the likely culprit." she accused and I had no other reaction other than knowing she was right.
