(Y/n)'s POV

~Nightmare~

"Shiki, wake up! Wake up! Please...I didn't mean to come late..."
"It's no use, (Y/n). He's dead, I think it's better this way. After all, you were the one that came late and allowed him to be pierced by my blade. It's all your fault," father exclaimed.

But how?... 'It's all your fault'. No, it shouldn't be! It was his fault for killing my brother. He would still be alive if it wasn't for him.

"Give it up, you knew that today was his final test and yet, you came late. This was your fault. If you came earlier, you could've saved him."
"No, this test should never have taken place. It's not my fault."

Suddenly, he had his hands around my throat. It was suffocating. Was this my fate? Was I destined to die by my father's hands? No...

~Nightmare end~

*gasp* It's fine, just breathe. Just a nightmare, not reality. That wouldn't happen. I was fine, don't worry.

But I knew that this was a possibility. There was nothing that said it couldn't come true.

"Hey (Y/n)-"
"Ah! Gosh, you scared me."
"Ahaha sorry, it did seem like you were deep in thought. Sorry," Kirito apologised.
"Don't worry about it."
"Anyway, how was your nap?"
"Wait, how long was I asleep? When did I fall asleep? Why don't I remember any of this?"
"Well, you complained that your head hurt after we beat up those jerks then blacked out. I don't know why you did but you were riding with me on my horse until Andrew suggested that we take a break. I think it was around 5 minutes later that you woke up."
"Sorry for making you go through all that trouble."
"It's not your fault. I'm supposed to protect you..."

I couldn't focus on what he was saying. That one line...'It's not your fault'. Was it really not my fault that I let my own brother die?- No! That was just a nightmare. It was just a nightmare...right? He wouldn't have died, right? He must be alive.

Suddenly, something hard was thrown at my head. Ouch...
I turned around and noticed that it was Klein that threw it.

"S-s-sorry! I didn't mean to throw that at you! I was aiming that at Kirito! Sorry, please forgive me!" he apologised with a frightened expression.
"It's fine."

*sigh* I stood up and walked up the stream a little before dipping my feet into the water. Shiki was safe...he had to be.

"Oi, don't wander off by yourself. Do you know how much trouble I would get in if your parents found out that you got hurt?" asked Kirito.
"They don't care about me so you don't have to worry. Even if I got hurt, they'd never blame you."
"Do you want some?" he asked while holding out some roasted almonds.

I took some and thanked him.

Klein's POV

"Are you ready, Andrew?"

He sighed and looked at me with an 'are you serious' face. Okay, I'll take that as a yes.

I walked up to Kirito and (Y/n) with my cool 'silent but deadly' ninja moves. My goal was to push them both in the water. *fake internal evil laugh*

"Klein, give it up," exclaimed Kirito.

I screamed and out of instinct, accidentally pushed both of them into the water. Well, either way, my plan still worked so I was satisfied.

They stared at me with an annoyed expression.

"I-it was Andrew's idea!"
"Nup, you're on your own," he replied while giving Kirito and (Y/n) towels once they got out of the water.

*gulp* I was in a lot of trouble now...

~Some time later~

Tch, that Kirito...thinking he was a hero by giving me this stupid bump on my head. Now I probably looked like an alien.

But at least something good came out of this. (Y/n) was applying some medicinal paste onto my head, which actually helped soothe the pain.

"*pokes tongue out* At least someone's nice to me."
"Look who's talking," Andrew replied with a grin.
"All done," said (Y/n).

I grabbed onto both of her hands and looked at her. A princess, an angel...no, a goddess!

Kirito's POV

Klein was looking at (Y/n) a little weirdly so I quickly picked up her and gave her a piggyback.

"K-Kirito!" she yelled, probably because she was scared.

Did her parents ever give her a piggyback before? I guess not.

"Now let's get away from the devil!"

I ran away from Klein while she just held on tighter. Well, she was lighter than any other girl I had carried. It wasn't like I wanted to, it was just because they were in trouble but the way they clung to me always slowed me down. Surprisingly, (Y/n) didn't do that. It was as if she knew what I felt.

"Kirito, I think you've gone too far."

Oh..she was right. We had gone too far. Oh well, we could just walk back. I put her down and stretched.

"Sorry, was I too heavy?"
"No, you're light. Now come on, let's head back before they get mad and scold me."

She nodded and began walking back. I chuckled to myself. She was cute when she actually had fun.

But what was she thinking about before? I could tell that she wasn't actually listening to me when I was talking to her back then. 'It's not your fault', after I said that, she spaced out. Did something happen? Was it her fault? I was sure it wasn't. Typical king and queen parents, responsibility and duty came before everything else...that wasn't true...

"Oi Kirito, we should get going," Andrew said.
"Alright."

I got on my horse and looked at (Y/n). She seemed sorta down.

"Hey (Y/n), something wrong?"
"No, it's nothing," she replied with a forced smile.

Well, it wasn't like I expected a different answer.
