Chapter 25

(Y/n)'s POV

Sachiko started muttering some kind of strange language. What was this? The ground shook, and her body turned into ashes. Was she...dead?

Kirito's POV

"No! What did Sachiko do?! She's going to ruin everything!" yelled Yuha.
"What do you mean?"
"She used the spell! The ancient spell of the Sphinx!"
"The...what?"
"Damn it! That stupid little girl! Don't you see?! We're not human! We hunt them for food and energy. This allows us to maintain our human forms and use our charms but she just released the seal! Now I'll-"

Before she could finish her sentence, her body turned into a pile of dust. Suddenly, it started moving like a gruesome monster and disappeared through the window. Damn it, I wasn't letting you get away.

I jumped out the window and ran to the palace gardens. Just on time...

I went in front of (Y/n) and blocked the energy blast from the monster.

"What happened?!"
"I don't know. She must've felt pressured because I used a spell with my katana. Of course, it only lasts for a certain amount of time but then that happened."

The monster-looking thing went out of control. It seemed as if there were two people arguing, disagreeing with each other's thoughts and opinions...as if they were completely out of sync.

"(Y/n), let's finish them off while they're distracted."

She nodded. I got out my sword and charged at the creature. Before attacking, I gave (Y/n) a lift. She jumped onto the monster and attacked from the top. I surrounded my sword with lightning before aiming for the monster's feet.

Our attacks weren't working at all. How strong was that thing's defence?! We couldn't beat this creature like this. Our tactic/s needed to change.

Unexpectedly, the monster started attacking. Its offensive power was incredible. It was even hard for me to block its attacks of...weird gooey stuff. Tch, it burned. It was freezing cold.

Shiki's POV

A loud noise from outside filled my ears. What happened? Was (Y/n)-nee in trouble?! I have to help her!

"Shiki, where are you going?!" mother asked with a worried expression.
"Don't worry, I'll be back soon."
"No Shiki, don't go. Your sister can take care of it..."
"Mother, I want to help too. (Y/n)-nee's fighting for me, I can't sit and wait for her to get hurt."
"...I get it. Go help your sister."
"*smiles* I'll be back."

I immediately ran to where the explosions were coming from. (Y/n)-nee! Kirito! They had gotten seriously injured, especially (Y/n)-nee...her fire was being overwhelmed by the freezing cold slime! I couldn't let them get hurt...

Kirito was having a hard time fighting that thing.

"Oi you! I'm talking to you, you ugly old beast! Do you really think this will do you any good?! What's the benefit of hurting someone?! Are you sacrificing others to get what you want?! Is that it?! Because I can't just let you go after what you've done to (Y/n)!"

I could feel the pressure and heat from his lightning. It was beyond anything I could imagine...so powerful. Was this what you'd call the power of one's emotions?

I looked at (Y/n)-nee and noticed that her fire was barely managing to keep her alive with the slime covering her whole body.

"(Y/n)-nee, fight the cold! Don't let that time control you! That's why you were given the fire power! Use it, (Y/n)-nee!"

(Y/n)'s POV

I could hear Shiki's voice. I couldn't give up like this. He was waiting for me...I couldn't let that time control me.

(Y/n), release it!

I let it all out. All the power residing within my body...everything was released. The slime immediately disappeared.

"Kirito!"
"Alright!"

He landed beside me and nodded. I ignited my hand with fire while he surrounded his with lightning. Our powers were combined until it felt like there was nothing left except for thin air. A split second later, a powerful combination attack was aimed at the creature.

Everything was silent, it was too quiet. The dust cleared. The time passed too slowly, as if this moment was never going to end. Did we...win?

What?! It was still alive?! Even after taking that attack?!

Shiki's POV

How was it alive?! Their combo attack was so strong and this thing was still alive! How?!

"You...must...be...surprised...We...knew *cough* that...this...would...happen, that's why...we...casted an immunity...spell on ourselves to...defend against your abilities. Don't be too...discouraged."

Kirito and (Y/n)-nee were having a hard time getting up after using that spell. The monster advanced towards them. No! I couldn't let it get there!

"Oi you! Come and fight me!"
"We...have no interest...in a little boy...like you."
"Shut up and fight! Don't tell me you're too scared?! Tch, what a coward."

I smirked. The beast was angry. Great!

Oi Shiki, I don't think that's something you should be happy about!
Don't worry, Kirito. I'll beat this thing for sure.

I cracked my knuckles before running towards the monster. Its speed was moderate and its power wasn't too bad.

Before I could even land a punch, the thing stretched out its hand and slammed onto the ground. I ran up its arm and got out my scythe. The weapon immediately threw itself at the monster.

After retrieving the scythe, I attacked again and again....that was, until the thing suddenly had the upper hand and released its power.
