Chapter 26

(Y/n)'s POV

No, Shiki couldn't fight that thing. Even with his 'Possessed Phantom' (his scythe), it would be impossible to beat the creature all by himself. Tch, damn it. I couldn't get up. I used too much power from the spell before.

"(Y/n)-nee! Watch out!"

I looked up. The creature was heading towards me but I couldn't move my body. I was completely frozen.
Suddenly, Kirito jumped up and ran in front of me, blocking all of the monster's attacks. He wasn't getting up.

"Kirito, wake up! Hey! Kirito!"

He wasn't budging. All I could feel was his shallow breathing and the small rise and fall of his chest. Kirito...don't do this...

Shiki's POV

Did...that monster...just knock out Kirito? No...I hated seeing (Y/n)-nee being sad. I hated seeing her tears of sorrow. It was all that creature's fault. It harmed Kirito and made (Y/n)-nee cry. It was...unforgivable.

"What's wrong, little boy?...Are you upset...because I harmed those two?...Is that it?"
"That's right. I'm very upset and I don't think you'd like to see me mad."
"*laughs crazily* Go back to your mummy! Crawl back to your father! Whine like what little boys are supposed to do!"
"Shiki, move out of the way!" (Y/n)-nee yelled.

I'd...end it here. I'd kill that monster and make sure (Y/n)-nee never cried again.

(Y/n)'s POV

Shiki! Move!...please....he has to dodge. He'd die if he didn't. It'd be over if he got hurt...

Suddenly, he looked up. The look in his eyes was something I had never seen before. It seemed as if the whole world went silent as the monster charged towards him at an incredible speed.

Shiki tightened his grip on the scythe and immediately jumped up and pushed off from a nearby tree. The force of his strike was unlike the amateurish moves like before. His physical abilities had been completely enhanced and was beyond any of my capabilities.

The fight barely even lasted for five minutes. A white light surrounded the whole area before finally fading. The creature had disappeared. All that was left was a small gem in its place.

Where was Shiki?! I looked around and noticed that he was lying on the ground. Was...that his power?

~Some time later~

Kirito and Shiki were both recovering in the medical area of the palace. Damn it...why was I the only one awake? Why me?...

"(Y/n), let's have a talk before they wake up," exclaimed father.

I nodded and followed him to the throne room. There was a long silence before he pulled me into a tight hug. What...was this feeling? Warmth spread throughout my body and by the time I realised it, tears had fallen down my cheeks.

"(Y/n), I'm sorry. I didn't mean to treat you and Shiki like that for all those years. I just wanted to make you stronger. I'm sorry for everything...."
"Father..."

I managed to smile and hugged him back. This was all I wanted...a happy family.

"(Y/n)-nee!"
"Shiki!"

Father let go of me, allowing Shiki to take his place. He was back to his usual self. I was happy.

"(Y/n)-nee, you're not sad anymore. I defeated the monster for you! Did you see?!" he asked excitedly.
"Yes, I did see. You were great."
"I know right. Even Kirito said I was great."
"I still can't believe how you managed to get so strong in such a short amount of time..."
"It's because of you, (Y/n)-nee!"
"Because of me?"
"*nods happily* Yeah! I wanted to become like you!"

That...was something I'd never forget.

Kirito's POV

~Some time later~

I pulled (Y/n) into a kiss. I missed this. Nothing was ever peaceful in our lives. We couldn't ever have a day without any chaos.

She blushed. Before she could look away, I lifted her chin up and kissed her forehead.

"Kirito-"
"Save it for later. I just want to spend some time alone with you."
"*smiles* Okay."

She lay down and allowed me to cuddle her. Within a few minutes, she had fallen asleep. Well, I could understand why. It was such a nice afternoon. She must've been exhausted from fighting. Shiki and I already had a nap so now it was her turn.

"Hey Kirito."
"Oh, hi Shiki."
"You know...I'm glad that (Y/n)-nee found someone she wants to spend the rest of her life with. She was so lonely for all those years...All I could do was get her protection. Now, I'm confident that I can stop her from crying with my new power."
"Yes, that's right," exclaimed Yui.
"Yui?"
"He possesses the power of light, being able to purify all things. His scythe is also a powerful weapon. I heard that it has a dark soul trapped inside."
"Yeah, father gave it to me," Shiki replied happily.

I smiled and ruffled his hair. Well, I'd never understand why such a young boy already had his power. Maybe he was just special.

I looked at (Y/n). You've got such a good family. One day, I'll make you happy, happier than you've ever been before because...I love you.

(Y/n)'s POV

I woke up and stretched. Did I fall asleep? Ugh, my head hurt. I looked around and noticed I was still lying on Kirito's chest.

"Hey, you awake?" he asked with a smile.
"Huh?"
"*laughs* You're cute when you're clueless."
"Huh? Hey!"
"See?"

Kirito's POV

She blushed and pouted. Shiki giggled before running off after grabbing Yui and Yato.
I hoped this peaceful day never ended.

"(Y/n)?"
"Yeah?"
"I love you."

Before she could reply, I kissed her and smirked. She was too cute.
