Chapter 16

(Y/n)'s POV

~Nightmare~

What was going on? Why was Kirito with Asuna again? He definitely told me he was sorry.

"Oh, hey (Y/n). We look like a real couple now, don't we?" Kirito asked with a smile.
"Kirito?"
"Don't worry, I know you're happy for us. I'll make sure to send you an invitation for our wedding," exclaimed Asuna.

What? I thought he was over her. Did he actually love her the whole time? Why did I feel so betrayed by knowing this? I didn't love him, did I? No, I shouldn't!

"(Y/n), why are you crying? Don't tell me...you love Kirito as well?" Asuna asked with a shocked expression.
"(Y/n), that's so low. You know that I love Asuna and yet you're trying to break our relationship?"

No...that wasn't it. This wasn't supposed to happen.

~Nightmare end~

I woke up with a start. That was just a nightmare. It wouldn't happen, it wouldn't ever happen.

"(Y/n), is something wrong?" Kirito asked.

Huh? I realised that I had fallen asleep in his lap.

"*blush* I-I'm sorry-"
"*laughs* Don't worry, I told you to lie down, don't you remember? Well, you looked tired. Anyway, did you have a nightmare?" he asked.

I nodded, a little embarrassed. Wait, where was William? Did he go home? Unexpectedly, Kirito pushed my head down gently so that I was now lying on his chest.

"William went home, if that's what you were wondering."
"Oh, how long was I asleep for?"
"Around 1-2 hours."
"2 hours?! Why didn't you wake me up?! Were you just sitting there the whole time?!-"
"Calm down, I didn't mind. Actually, it felt peaceful," he replied with a grin.

After a little hesitation, I calmed down and relaxed. Without realising it, I had tensed up when he answered my question. Well, he said he didn't mind so I shouldn't be worried.

"It's getting late, let's head back."

We got up and headed back to town. While going back, something kept bothering me. The fact that Asuna could use her power, which was unknown to me, anytime was making me afraid.

(Y/n), you're probably overthinking it. Asuna might not be that evil.
I know but think about what she's done so far. How can I just calm down?
It's nothing to worry about. In fact, Asuna might not be all that bad.
Yui, I thought you were on my side. Why do you sound as if you're helping her?
H-hehe, no reason.

Asuna must've done something to her! Damn it, I should've realised but I was too busy thinking about Kirito and Asuna.

"(Y/n), watch out!"

He knocked me to the ground and landed on top of me. We had just avoided a bullet.

"Those kind of bullets can only be found in Glocken. How did Swilvane get something like this? Glocken's usually tight on security," exclaimed Kirito.
"Come on, we don't have time to talk now. Asuna probably sent them. We need to save Yui!"

I pulled him up and ran out of the forest. We immediately headed back to the palace and stopped for a breath at the gate.

"Who's Yui?"
"She's my friend. Asuna has her, please help me."

He nodded and motioned for me to follow him. We arrived at a hidden door at the back of the palace. Slowly and quietly, we went down the steep staircase until we arrived at another door.

"How do you know about this place?"
"I got bored and started to do some exploring," he whispered back.

I opened the door a little and saw Yui tied to a small chair. She immediately saw me and quickly shook her head.

"Where is she?"
"You can't see her unless she allows you to. Wait here-"
"But Asuna-"
"Exactly why I want you to wait here. She'll do something bad to you again."

He reluctantly nodded and stood back a little. I pushed the door open and went inside. Without thinking, I deflected Asuna's daggers with my katana.

"It seems like Yui's acting wasn't good enough. Mika, punish her a bit will you?"
"Don't you dare lay a finger on her. Let her go and I won't tell your father about this."
"Do you actually think he'll believe you over me? Ha! You must be joking."
"Asuna, stop this-"
"Too late, (Y/n)."

She shot some kind of toxic liquid at me. I dodged just in time. Was her power the ability to make poison? Tch, that was so like her.
While avoiding her poison, I ran towards Yui and surrounded us in a wall of fire.

"(Y/n), you have to be careful. Asuna hired some men that had travelled here from Glocken. You know the weapons, guns in particular, that they make. Aincrad and Swilvane's weapons can't even be compared," Yui told me.
"I'm sure Kirito's already handling that situation. He has some knowledge on Glocken."
"We have to get out of here."

I nodded and hid her in my pocket. Cautiously, I let the fire disappear and ran for the door. But before I could reach it, Asuna shot a ball of burning toxin that landed on my arm. Damn it, I wasn't careful enough.

Without wasting any time, I ran out and up the staircase until I had arrived outside the palace. Where was Kirito? Ugh, my arm...

No one's POV

A shadow had fallen over Kirito's face. He was angered, and nothing could stop him.

"What...did you just say?" he asked in a menacing tone.
"You heard me. We're looking for (Y/n) (L/n), Asuna promised that we could play with her once she had finished 'punishing' her," replied the leader of the gang.

Kirito began walking slowly towards them. He cracked his knuckles. For some unknown reason, the gang had not heard of the black knight and completely underestimated Kirito's strength and agility.

Within a couple of minutes, every member was wiped out except for the leader. Kirito had saved him for last, for the leader had clearly insulted the person that he cared about and valued the most.
