I haven't seen Martin at all lately. I haven't even heard from him, either. I don't know why I haven't asked him, his dad, or anyone in particular, just to find out as to why. Not even visiting him has seriously come into my mind. Maybe I'm just lazy, or simply not up for it. What happened to him, I wonder?
Is he avoiding me for real, because of what happened? I'm not sure; he's not that kind of guy who easily backs down. But now, with this past he has that I don't know of, it seems so unclear. If he doesn't want to be lonely, what is this right now? Isn't this, what he's doing, going to have an opposite effect? And what was with Ty, a couple of days ago? It's as if he knew this was going to occur.
Ty. He's been kind with me recently, though. The class recognizes us as a couple now, and the thing we have going on, it's going pretty well. It's been less than a week, and he's been quite a charm. Although I'm still grounded, he's still able to plan some getaways, so we can have little, short dates.
Like yesterday, our last hour of class was cancelled, because the teacher was absent. The students were able to leave school early in this case. Ty and I left for the nearest place to get some peace. There were electric generators nearby, ones that made the whole town run, owned by Shelter Co., and there was an abandoned lot beside it. It looks like no one knew about that place. Ty said that he spotted it from his apartment, thanks to his keen eyes. We stayed there, overlooking the scenery as it sparkled at us.
I can't explain what it felt like to be with him, by his side. He patted me in the head, brushing my hair with his fingers. It's like I could fall asleep with just that. Then, before I could even rest my head on his shoulders, he comes up and gives me a gentle kiss. I was hypnotized by his grasp. Eternity passed, and the alarm I set rang, telling me that it's almost time to head back home. He kissed me goodbye one more time, and we left for our houses.
My phone rattled its way to a long fall from my desk. I realized it too late, since it already hit the ground hard. Luckily, the phone case was as hard as titanium, and the carpet lessened the impact. I picked it up and checked what was going on. It was Martin's dad calling.
"Hello?" I greeted over the phone, whilst scanning the little gadget for any scratches or dents.
A firm voice that couldn't have belonged to anyone but his dad said, "Oh, hi, Zoey. How ya doing?"
It's quite odd for him to be calling me. He hasn't called me at all, nor have I called him, ever since he both exchanged numbers. We only did so, probably just to add more contacts on our phone, one more people to our friends list.
"Um, fine, Mr. Turner. What seems to he the problem?" replied I, courteously.
"Just like your mother, I see," he said, imitating my way of speaking. "What a fine lady you've become, then."
I fell silent. I began to lose patience, just as I was not getting the motives he had by calling me by phone. Especially since there's Martin in the way.
"Oh, yeah. I called to talk about Martin." What a coincidence. "Have you spoken to him lately?"
"No, mister."
"So, you don't know that he has a cold right now?"
That's new, but, now that I think of it, that may be possible. He came out on a rainy day, without an umbrella. "Really? Is he okay?"
"That doesn't seem like it. He still hasn't recovered since last Sunday. His fever isn't going down, either. You didn't know? I thought he would tell you, or, at least, you'd ask him yourself."
"Sorry, busy," I lied. "I didn't know."
"Can you do me a favor, then? Can you come over, spend an hour or two, make him feel a little bit better?"
I started to decline the request, "Mr. Turner, I'm sorry. I actually grounded right―."
"Thanks, it's settled, then," he rejoiced. "How about now? Ok? Thanks, you're a big help." He hung up on me and left me with this mess.
I can just stay, not care at all, and let Mom handle it. I stare at his window, the blinds closed down, preventing any chances to see him.
