Leighton's POV

And just like that, it was the end of my birthday trip in Denmark, the end of the sorrow I felt in Denmark, the end of making memories in Denmark.

For the past three days, traveling around the beautiful city of Copenhagen and trying the wonderful foods of this amazing country have been the only two activities on our schedule. What I have realized is that, I don't want to leave. Being here has been one hell of a trip and I have nothing but love for this country, and it is exhilarating to be different from everybody, besides the whole gay thing.

Both my mother and I would definitely love to come back and visit one day in the future. It was truly an adventure of a lifetime, but it is now time to return back to our sweet town of Kansas City and lay in the comfort of my queen sized bed. All I can hope for is normalcy and peace back home, without thinking of him.

Currently it is ten in the morning of the final day we are here, and mom and I need to pack to get to our flight before twelve, or we are for sure screwed. At least neither one of us are pigs that attract messiness.

"Mom, let's start packing and get out of here; though I will miss it, I am ready to hit the road, sleep in my own bed, and give my friends two ginormous hugs, because I really miss their nice butts." I say, before realizing how much I really miss Blessing and Colby.

They've been with me through thick and thin, and that says a lot considering all of the crap has been sent towards me and my family. Only a few things have gone right in my life, and those two boys have been nothing but brothers to me; I think since we were just wee boys.

We rapidly shove everything into our luggage while calling an Uber, who needs to be here as fast as it possibly can. We both have to go through everything at the airport, plus a fifteen minute trip adding traffic in the mix. I just know we better not miss that flight; those things are too damn expensive to miss.

Ten minutes later, it seemed like the universe was against us, because our Uber had to cancel on us for an emergency. Mom immediately got on the phone to call another one, making sure nothing happens to this one. Within five minutes, everything was packed and ready to hit the road, especially since our ride was finally ready.

Eventually, the driver took off. Traffic seemed to be backed up, because we weren't moving but a few feet a minute. Please don't let us miss this flight.

"What should we do when we get back?" Mom asked, acting as if she was a kid in the candy store, waiting to get back to Kansas, "I say we get some food, and head to the cafe to catch up with everyone, and..."

"Okay, Mom. First off, I think you need to calm down," I say with a sigh, "Second off, I say we go just sleep. We are going to have the worst jet lag in the history of jet lags," only sighing once again.

And with that, we finally arrived at the airport and it was about 11:15, meaning we had 45 minutes before we board and take off. Please, Lord, don't let us forget to do anything, because we don't need anymore mishaps.

Passport. Check. Luggage. Check. Mother. Check. Phone. Check. Looks like I have everything. "Mom, you got everything, for sure?" All she did was mutter a quick yes, before we rushed into the airport with all of our belongings.

Within twenty minutes, we were sitting at our terminal waiting to be called over the intercom to board the plane. I've been on a few flights, but I always get slight anxiety from the thought of being so high up in the air. This always happens. I need to sleep; I am so tired.

"I am going to the restroom. Please watch our belongings and not just your cell phone. I have valuables in my purse, young man." Mom commanded.

A few moments later, I heard a phone ring, and knowing it was Mom's ringtone, I dug through her pocket book and answered, not paying attention to the caller ID.

"Hello, is this Kelly Grey? I am calling to talk about your results," a male voice came from the other side of the phone.

"No, this is her son, Leighton Grey. Who is this and why are you calling?"

"Oh, hi. This is Dr.Phillips, from Neurologists of Kansas City. Your mother came in a couple weeks ago complaining of short-term memory loss after long activities, strong headaches, and a small lump in the back of her head. We did a brain scan and we have saddening and worrisome news. I wanted to call and schedule an appointment, when you get back from your travels; she mentioned it before she left."

"I didn't know all of this.." the tiredness left my body and the anxiety was coursing through me even quicker now, making me want to curl up in a ball. "What is the 'worrisome' news? Are you allowed to inform me about it?"

"Usually we are not allowed to share this information over the phone or with anyone other than the patient unless they say it's okay, but because I don't know when you will get back, I will share. Please share this with your mom, okay?" Dr. Phillips said.

"She has chronic migraines, which are about ten times stronger than headaches, depending on the person. I know it doesn't seem bad, but these means her headaches last her a longer time that most headaches. She just needs to lay in a dark, quiet room, light and sound hurt during headaches, which brings pain into your head. Try not to let her take medication other than what I am going to prescribe, because it will interfere with the jobs of what is prescribed. Also, make her drink lots of water, keep her hydrated. I will set up an appointment for this Tuesday to talk over everything in more detail with Ms. Kelly, so if you would pass on the message and don't forget to share what you learned today with her. I hope you have a nice day! I will speak with you Tuesday," he said in a rush, and with that, he hung up on me.

I didn't realize I dropped the phone back into her purse, and slow tears began to fall from my eyes. I feel like there was more to that information.

"I can't believe she didn't tell me she went and got these tests done," I mutter to myself, "she should trust me enough to tell me this, no matter how serious it is. If she was in pain, I would've hoped she'd want to tell me about it, but I guess not."

I hear rustling next to me, and look up from my lap, not surprised that it was my mom, but I just looked back down and decided this is going to be a long flight.

"What's wrong, dear?" She spoke, but I just shook my head, whisper a quick "Nothing," and she lets it go.

"All passengers flying from Copenhagen, Denmark to Kansas City, Kansas, please report to terminal 34B. If you are first class, please go to the check in area in the front, and board the flight. Thank you for flying Copenhagen International," the women on the intercom speaks.

Only a few moments later, mother and I boarded, buckled up in our respected seats, and got settled. I figured I could take a long nap. As soon as my head hits the headrest, the emotions and exhaustion caught up with me and I was gone. Until next time Denmark, it has been an experience, both beautiful and horrific all at once.
