A Different Ending

Emergency Release

"James where's the Daily Prophet headquarters!" Lily was pulling them through the thick crowd to the lifts.

"Um.." James was obviously wracking his brain for the location.

"It's on the third floor Lily." Remus spoke.

"Let's go." She didn't question how he knew but he didn't think he wanted to.

She shoved people aside with a determined look on her face that people back away from. They got to the lifts and she shut out any people who tried to follow them as she went to the third floor. She stormed through looking for the head writer. A young woman with blond curls approached.

"Hello im Rita Skeeta, i write for the Daily prophet, can i get an interview?" Lily started to agree but James spoke first.

"No thak you, could you kindly lead us to the head of this department?" A sour look came over her face but she nodded and beckoned for them to follow her.

"James why did you say no to the interview?" Lily leaned and whispered in his ear.

"We went to school with her, always started rumors and would say what ever interested people. I don't trust her." She nodded as they followed Rita.

"Here you are, the head of the Daily Prophet." She had a forced smile as she left them, she obviously wanted that interview.

James pushed open the door and they walked into the office. It was a small place covered in parchment, quills, and ink. Peter didn't even know there were this many types of quills, he saw the normal ones, but also ones that shimmered in all different colors. The one that really stood out was a long, dark green one, it looked as if it hadnt been used before. A tall woman who was very thin and willowy walked out, she had auburn hair kept in a short bob.

"Hello would you care to give us an interview?" Lily spoke sweetly.

The woman look up and her mouth dropped open. "Um... yeah sure. I heard that you guys were seen here but i didn't believe it." She quickly cleared off her desk and created some chairs with a wave of her wand. "Here sit, let's get started."

"Ok so, how do we know you're really James and Lily Potter and Peter Pettigrew and not imposters?"

"Me and Peter could produce patronuses and Remus can vouch for them." James suggested

"And Lily can't because...?"

"My wands broken." She pulled out the pieces of her wand and a picture was taken.

"OK then Remus what are James and Peter patronuses from memory?"
"James had a stag and Peter had a rat."

"Ok then go ahead guys." They stood up and cast the charm. A stag and a rat burst out and started to run together. The camera floated up and took a picture of them running. They sat back down for the next question

"So why did you want this interview?"

"Well we wanted people to know we're alive and also so Sirius Black can be released." Lily spoke calmly hiding a smile at the reporter's face.

"Why would you want Sirius Black dead? He was the reason you almost died, correct?"

"Incorrect, it's not my story to tell so i going to let Peter tell his story." Everyone turned to him at once. He didn't want to tell the story again but he did.

"I betrayed James and Lily, but i also am the reason they're alive. See Voldemort tricked me into giving up the location and i couldn't let them die. They are my family. I made a plan..." He told the story and towards Remus put in bits he forgot. There were no dry eyes in the room when they were done, but she continued do finish the interview.

"So you guys want Sirius Black released at once and no charges for Peter?"

"Correct and we won't take no for an answer." James spoke up after being very quiet.

"Now why shouldn't we charge Peter for being a death eater?" Her voice was only questioning like she wanted to know the answer to a school question.

"He wasn't a death eater, no dark mark, no other crimes in the name of Voldemort. He made a mistake and we don't hold that against him, you can't turn your back on family. And i won't turn my back on my brothers." His voice filled with love at the end.

"Well that's it all we need is a picture and you'll be on the front page." They stood with their arms around each other and smiled for a picture. "Oh, What do you want the grabber to be?"

"The what?"

"The title, the thing that makes people want to read." She spoke like this was common knowledge.

"Since it changes between two how about 'Sirius Black is Innocent' and 'Don't Turn Your Back on Family'" She nodded to Lily.

"You could get a job here, talk to me if you want one." With that she walked back through the door she came through. Her head popped out a second later. "Why don't you stay this will only take a minute then we can release it as an emergency addition, we can have tea." They sat back down from when they stood to walk out and waited for... Ms. Bowen... to be back with their addition.
