When I got home Melany was already there. She sat on the couch in my brother Jason's arms. He was trying to comfort her.
I stood there not knowing for sure what I should say. I noticed Melany didn't realize I was home yet so I went upstairs to my parents room to talk to them.
"Hey sweetheart." My father greeted me as I entered the room. I shut the door behind me. "What's wrong honey"? He said. "You heard about Melany's parents." I told them. "She has no where to go now." I sat on the edge of the bed. My mother knew were I was heading with this conversation so she said, "She can live with us Katie, but she will have to get a job like you." She said. I thought for a second then said, "She has no one to make the funeral plans for her aunt and parents" I looked sad. I felt my parents were full of sadness too. "We will make them." My father said finally breaking the painful silence.
I nodded and went out of the room. I walked down the stairs to find Melany had fallen asleep in Jason's arms.
"She finally cried herself to sleep." he said in a low hushed voice. I didn't have anything much to say. I said, "just hold her while she sleeps." my voice was shaky. "That way at least she will have something nice happening in her life."
I turned out of the room and decided to go into the kitchen. I was hungry and decided with all this madness going on I wanted some ice cream to soothe all the pain.
I sat at the bar on a stool in the big kitchen alone. My ice cream was half gone when I heard someone enter through the back door. My head snapped in that direction, only to see it was Isabel. We didn't speak she only looked at me and walked out of the kitchen.
I didn't know what to do so I decided to go up to my room and sleep.
When I woke up I heard nothing. The house dead silent. I went across the hall to Isabel's room. She was asleep. I walked to my parents room they were sleeping too. I them turned down the hall and crept down the stairs.
Melany was still asleep. Only this time so was Jason. He fell asleep holding her I smiled at the way they looked then went into the kitchen to start dinner.
