After dinner was finished and everyone had settled down I decided it was time for Melany to talk. "Mells come to my room." I said walking up the steps to my bedroom. I noticed her biting her fingernails as she walked behind me. I entered the room first then shut the door behind us.

"Melany I know something is wrong with you." I said staring my best friend in the eyes. I noticed her eyes were cold and they were holding a dark secret, a secret no one knew. Not even me, her best friend since preschool.

She stared at me, but not in the eyes. I wasn't even sure she was looking at my face. Her lips moved but no sound escaped.

Dead silence fell into the room with us and once again I felt the chilling air fill up the spaces around me.

"Come on Melany!" I shouted. "Tell me what is wrong with you."

"Katie, I am fine." She said finally "I'm stressed out because I have to take care of my aunt."

I nodded at her. She turned to walk out of the room to get her clothes out of the dryer. I stood there alone and confused. Knowing that she just lied to me.

"Hey Katie I'm going to get a shower". Melany said after poking her head through the half open door. "okay." I said "you know where everything is so go ahead." I gave her half a smile and watched her as she walked away

Then I remembered she put her clothes in my empty drawer. I quickly ran over to it and yanked it open. I tore through her clothes and found a hair ribbon. "That's odd" I thought "Melany's hair is to short to be pulled up." Then I realized the cheerleaders wore these ribbons. Angelica had the same one.

"Katie what are you doing going through my stuff?" I turned to see Melany hovering in the doorway. "I was just uh, looking for my uh, dance ribbon." I said I grabbed the bloody hair ribbon without really letting Melany see it. I walked over to my closet and shoved it into my box of ribbons.

The rest of the night went by smoothly. Melany and I sat around and watched movies and acted like everything was normal.
