It was around 10:30 on a Friday night when we got a call from Riverside Memorial Hospital.

"Hello?" I answered.

"Hello Katie this is Nurse Williams your baby boy has just been born.

I put the phone on speaker and pulled Hunter closer.

"He weighs 5 pounds 8 ounces and is 19 inches long. He's a very tiny but very healthy baby. You can pick him up tomorrow.

"Can we come see him tonight?" I asked.

"Yes ma'am you sure can."

I smiled.

"Ok, tell him mommy and daddy are on the way." I said. Hunter grabbed me and kissed me and when he pulled away he had a huge smile on his face.

After a while he said, "we're parents!"

I started giggling. "Come on, let's go see little Hunter." I said and we walked out the door hand in hand.

We constantly talked about how beautiful he was going to be. It takes us thirty minuets to drive to the hospital. when we got there we found the first parking spot open in the parking deck and took it. We locked the doors and ran into the building. "Katie?" I heard someone ask. I looked over and was very surprised by who it was. "Melany!" I said. she looked sad. They had her back in her jail uniform and handcuffs. "Take care of our little baby." She started to cry and I did too. I never thought that's what would become of my best friend. The police officers took her away and put her in the car.

Nurse Williams spotted us and said, "oh Katie none of that crying you will be so happy when you see that beautiful baby of yours." I wiped away the tears and walked behind her. Hunter was still holding my hand. "ok, now you two have to listen to me. He was the last baby born tonight so there are no other nurses working. you two slip on these scrubs and you can come in." She said. "I thought of this earlier because it's not fair to make you wait till tomorrow to see your baby."

Hunter and I slipped the scrubs on and followed nurse Williams into the neonatal room. She shut the curtains around the nursery. She led us to the incubator furthest from the window.

"Here's your beautiful and healthy baby boy." she said.

I looked inside. She was right, he was beautiful. He looked like my brother, and I look like my brother so my baby looks like me. Hunter asked, "can I hold my baby"? Nurse Williams nodded and picked him up. she placed him gently in his arms and the baby was automatically calmed.

"Hey son, I'm your daddy." Hunter kept saying. The baby opened up his eyes and when he saw me standing behind Hunter he seemed to brighten up. "Do you want your mommy"? Hunter asked him. He handed him to me and I completely fell in love with the idea of raising this beautiful miracle. "call him 'Little Hunter' "

Nurse Williams said. "I like that." Hunter said. he looked at me. "so do I." I agreed. "okay kids you gotta put him back. I'm staying here watching him tonight." I kissed 'little Hunter' on the head and laid him in the incubator. "you can pick him up at six tomorrow morning." Nurse Williams said. we hugged her goodbye and left.

It was midnight so we only had 6 hours before we were with him again. Hunter and I jumped into the shower and went to bed. we woke up at 5 and got ready to go. We went up to his room grabbed his car seat and his clothes we decided on the outfit mom picked up for him. it was blue with a monkey on it.

We entered the hospital excitedly. Hunter had the car seat and I had the diaper bag and outfit. Nurse Williams was waiting for us. "How was he"? I asked. she smiled. "he was an angel." she seemed sad. "what's wrong nurse w"? Hunter asked. "I've gotten so attached to him. I don't have any children, my husband died before we had any and I just don't have the heart to remarry and I'm too old now." she said. Right then I knew what to do. "Nurse Williams would you do the honors of being his godmother?" I started, "you know where we live you can stop by anytime you want."

Nurse Williams accepted the offer and I even let her dress him and fasten him into his car seat. We took her picture with him and she took our picture with him. we printed these and placed them in his baby book. as we visited people they all agreed we had a beautiful baby.

I was so in love with that baby and Hunter and my life was perfect for me. Little Hunter seemed to love us more and more each day and he was just like my brother. Now I know I will always have a piece of my brother with me.
