I walked into Riverside Police Department that next morning. It was still early and the lady at the desk seemed to be very sleepy.
"Uh,miss"? I asked her.
She looked at me kind of shocked that a teenager would be up this early. "What can I do for you babe"? she asked me. She seemed nice but sounded sleepy. "Can I talk to an investigator, I think I have some information on the murders." She sat up straighter in her chair. Slowly she stood and walked over to the wall and pressed the call button. "Mr. Everett you have a visitor." she said into the intercom.
After a short while a door opened in the back and out stepped an elderly man dressed in a fully decorated policeman uniform. "Mr. Everett, this lovely young lady says she has some information on the murders." His eyes brightened as well. "what's your name kid"? I took in a deep breath and said "Katie." My voice kind of quavered. "Come with me." His deep voice directed towards me. I followed him through a long hallway of closed metal doors. I hadn't brought a jacket so I was shaking because the air was so thin and cold. it was almost silent in there. When we got to the end of the hall Mr. Everett opened the door and gestured me to go in. It was at least twenty degrees warmer in there and I was thankful. "Would you like some coffee"? He asked. I nodded politely and looked around the room. it was made of stone, all of it to be exact. He set a plastic coffee cup in front of me and I thanked him and began to sip. "Now sit here and collect your thoughts and remember what you have to tell me while I go and get the papers I need." He said. I sat quietly and remembered everything from the dreams. He returned several minuets later and sat in front of me. "Katie tell me exactly what's been going on"
"I've dreamed the murders for the last three nights."
"Let's start with the first dream."
I took a deep breath in and began my story.
"Night one it was Angelica Preston. I saw her brushing her hair and the person in the closet. She was defiantly a lady. She had short curled hair and she was talk and skinny with a trim figure. She took Angelica's bag from the crime scene."
"Night two." Mr. Everett suggested.
"Night two was Bella Ruth White. my best friend Melany's aunt. I saw her murdered by what looked like the exact same lady, but this time she didn't take anything.
"Alright so night three was the same?" He asked. "Yes, Melany's parents were the third dream."
Officer Everett stood up and said, "let me go get the sketch artist." He eagerly walked out the door.
"Hello Katie, my name is Gretchen Woodard, and I'm the Riverside Police Departments sketch artist." She was a talk woman with long curly red hair.
she sat down across the table from me. Now describe the lady in your dreams please honey." I told her exactly what I told mom and Officer Everett. "Ok, did you see any facial features dear"? I sighed. "Unfortunately, no ma'am I didn't." All she had on the canvass was an ordinary figure of a normal woman. "I'm going to save this canvass because I have an excellent idea." Gretchen said. Her eyes went from me to Officer Everett. "two words." she said "Sleep study." Officer Everett stood and said, "excellent idea." I didn't know what to say. "Katie we have a psychologist on hand here we want to let you sleep in her office later so she can study you." I remained silent knowing that this could save our sleepy little town. "We want you to dream again and focus on getting the killers attention. this way we can get some facial features." I stood up too taking the last sip of my coffee. "I'll do it." Gretchen and Officer Everett smiled. "okay hows Saturday night sound"? Gretchen asked. I nodded my head and walked out the door. Another step closer to solving this crime.
