Chapter 16. Sleep study

I walked inside the room where they were going to do my sleep study.
I was nervous a little, knowing that riverside depended on me. A 17 year old girl.
"Hey Katie, are you ready?" Gretchen asked me. I gave her a small smile and nodded politely. I was ordered to stay awake all last night and all day today. it was 9 p.m. My sleep study was scheduled for 9:30. "Have you eaten"? Mr. Everett asked me. "No sir, I have not." He motioned for his assistant Hunter Brandit to come forward. "yes sir"? he asked him. Hunter was tan and talk and skinny. He was cute even. "go make Katie a salad please." Hunter smiled at me and walked out of the room. "Now while we wait let me explain what's going to happen to you tonight." Gretchen said. "first you will eat then you will lay down on this chair." she began. "then you will be provided a blanket and pillow. from there we will give you a medicine that will make you sleep heavy. then you will be hooked up to a monitor that will measure your dream sequence, heart and oxygen levels." At this time Hunter returned with my salad. it looked amazing. I began eating immediately. "Now Katie, since your finished go ahead and lie down." Gretchen said. I did as she told. no sooner than my head hit the pillow and I got comfortable I was drifting off to sleep. "Katie here's the medicine you have to take." Hunter said. I opened my mouth for him to pop the pill inside my mouth. I swallowed instantly and continued to get comfortable. I felt Gretchen hooking me up to the machine.
"Now Katie you should be asleep very soon now we will be able to monitor your dreams."
That was it I was asleep.

Gretchen's p.o.v.

Katie was laying there. her dream began soon after she fell out. Officer Everett called in a scientist who could communicate with her while sleeping to guide her through the dream all through the machine.
"Now Katie do you see the killer?" Officer Everett asked her. "yes." she said. "Katie listen to me very carefully." He said again. "now wherever you are in the dream please follow this killer." Katie's body went stiff.
This was the most amazing yet horrifying thing I've ever witnessed. "Katie are you following them?" He asked. "Yes." she said once again. "follow them until you get some place where you can expose them."
Katie only nodded this time. she's concentrating really hard on this dream.
"I've got them!" She hollered out suddenly. "it's a lady!" She hollered again. "Now Katie expose them!" Everett hollered in excitement. "oh my lord no!" She began to sob.
"What is it?" I asked her. "it's my best friend Melany!" she sobbed more. "she's the killer!"

The room fell silent. I didn't know what to say. The poor girl was crying her eyes out. the scientist began to unhook her from the machine and take it away. She's still crying.

"Hunter!" Everett called. Hunter reappeared into the room. "stay here with Gretchen and hold Katie, I have someone who has to be put into riverside's custody. Hunter did as told and went to the chair and scooped up Katie into his lap as he rocked her slowly.
