It had been a month and a week since Thad and I had been dating. It also happened to be Thad's birthday in two days. I hadn't gotten him anything yet, and I felt bad, but I shook it off as he rushed around, gathering his gear. Alex was waiting for him at the door so they could go meet their coach for their game, but Thad took his sweet time.
"Thad, hurry up!" Alex yelled impatiently, when someone I didn't recognize came through the door. Alex greeted him happily as he looked around.
"Hey fellah's, I decided to stop by, knew you were still livin' here and wanted to know if I could bunk with ya since I'm startin' on the BMS NFL team next week." He asked upon entering. Thad turned around and looked at the guy. He was short but lanky, he was covered in tattoos and his hair was slicked back.
"Harmon?! You're on our team again?" Thad smiled, "I guess you can, but I want free drugs!"
"Thad," Harmon said with his country accent. "you already get free drugs, you're a goddamn NFL star now." He reasoned, having a good point.
"Oh," Thad looked down in shame. "Okay then!" Thad accepted, finding his jersey and pulling it on. "Let's go, Moran, no time to lose!" Thad slammed the door behind him after Harmon made it into the house, looking around and nodding to himself. He looked at me and waved, so I waved back.
"You must be Thad's girlfriend." He said, "I don't think Thad has ever had a girlfriend before." He laughed as he lit a cigarette.
"So, who exactly are you?"
"Harmon Tedesco. Was on Thad and Alex's college team as a kicker."
"Oh! you were that guy that got the icicle shoved up your ass on that show, right?" Harmon looked around regretfully as he took another puff of his cigarette.
"Yes... That was me..." He sighed. Sunny came running down the stairs in her underwear and T-shirt with a dress in each hand. She paused when she saw Harmon and looked back and forth between the two of us.
"Ice," She began. "Who is this?"
"It's Harmon, Alex and Thad's old college kicker! Remember, the guy from one week who--" She cut me off mid-sentence.
"--Got an icicle shoved up his ass? I remember." Sunny nodded, looking over to me. Sammy came in around that time with my cellphone, holding it out to me.
"There is a Mikayla Hawthorne waiting to speak to you, Mrs. Castle, it's urgent." I took the phone and held it up to my ear when Sammy recognized Harmon.
"Ali?" A sad voice came from the other end.
"Mickey? What's going on?" I asked, sitting down on the couch and crossing my legs.
"So my parents kicked me out," She began. "I wanted to know if you have any rooms at your place that I could stay in."
"Thing is... I live with, like, three football stars right now, and in the biggest party house possibly in the country..."
"Oh..."
"But, I think we do have a couple rooms left here for ya."
"Really? Where?"
"Blue Mountain State." She knew how far away Blue Mountain State was from New Brunswick. But if she really wanted to live somewheres on her own she'd have to go there. I talked her into it and found out she'd be there at the end of the week. I returned to the others to ask them for help.
"Guys, I need help."
"Anything you need!" Sammy responded.
"So, Thad's birthday is in a couple of days, and I don't know what to get him. Any ideas?" Everyone looked around at each other and Sunny started laughing. "What?" Sunny came over and whispered her and Alex's gift idea. I nodded and laughed, but I wasn't piggybacking.
