Chapter Two -- Meeting at Dino's
Kai's POV
I laid back while watching the two ladies of my life walk out of the room. Being a parent isn't easy, but I wouldn't give it up for the world and I wouldn't trade it for shit. I love my baby girl too much.
My cell phone started to ring, pulling me away from my short thoughts. I let out a aggravated sigh. I swear, I don't feel like being bothered.
"What up?" I answered on the third ring.
"What up, Kai, man. I hate to cut into yo' family time, but I need you to meet me at Dino's," Bone's voice boomed out in the phone.
Over the years, Bone and I have became closer than I ever expected. He's graduated from being a associate to my right hand man.
I shook my head, regretting answering the phone. "Aight," I agreed before disconnecting the call.
I got up, took a quick shower, and put on my fit for the day. It took me less than thirty-five minutes to do all that. I can't understand why it took women forever and a day.
"Going some where?"
I looked at Diamond behind me through the mirror. She looked so sexy in her tight t-shirt and boy shorts that hugged her plump ass like they was painted on. I wanted to call Bone back and say fuck meeting up, but it's business before pleasure, even for Diamond.
"Yeah, Bone wanna meet up," I told her while pulling my eyes away from her frame to continue brushing my haircut.
She rolled her eyes and walked away. Here she go with this shit again, I thought while sitting the brush on the bathroom's marble black counter.
"Baby," I called out to her while following her down the long hallway.
She ignored me, as usual, as I now followed her into the kitchen.
"Yo, why the fuck you always do this shit, D?" I asked her while trying to keep my voice down so Kaila wouldn't hear me. I try not to let my daughter see this side of her father. The rough side.
Diamond turned around swiftly, her face red like a tomato from pint up anger. "Because you never spend time with us anymore, Kai. Every time Bone calls, you run!"
When what she said registered through my brain, I softend up. All she wanted to do was have me around, but she needs to understand that I can't make money by sitting on my ass having family time.
I let out a frustrated sigh. I grabbed Diamond by her small waist as I pulled her closer to me. She let her head rest on my shoulder, so I knew she wasn't mad but hurt.
"If it wasn't for the money--"
"I know," she said, cutting me off and kissing my neck softly. "I just wish you could get out sooner, baby."
I rubbed her back gently while trying to keep my dick under control. It's got so bad just a touch from Diamond turned me on. "I'm trying, Diamond. I'm trying, aight?"
I felt her nod her head up and down so I'll know she's trying to understand.
She sat up and looked me in the eyes. "I love you so much, Kai"
I felt little small flutters in my stomach whenever she said that. I remember a time when she barely said it at all. Damn, we've come a long way.
"I love you too, D. You know that. That's why I'm doing this. For you and Kaila, baby."
She nodded again and kissed me. I kissed her back and told her and Kaila I'll see them both later.
When I stepped outside of our house, I jumped in my car and headed to straight to Dino's.
*****
It was still kinda early so when I got to Dino's it wasn't that many people there. Bone was sitting in the corner at a two seat table eating breakfast.
"What up, Bone?" I greeted while sitting down across from him and his platter of food.
He got straight to the point, "Shit getting crazy in the streets, man." He stuffed some eggs in his mouth and called the waitress over before I got a word out.
She took his plate that was still half covered with food. "Anything else?"
"Yeah, yo' number in my phone," Bone said, trying to run game on the girl while trying to give her his phone. I shook my head, this nigga been like this ever since I could remember.
A smile danced on her full lips while taking Bone's phone. The girl didn't even hesitate. My boy still got it.
When she was done giving the digits she threw Bone a wink before walking off to another table.
"Damn, she got a phat ass," he said while starring at her backside as she walked.
I grinned, shaking my head. "Boy, you a fool," I told him.
Bone sat up straighter and cleaned his hands on a paper napkin."Like I was saying, shit getting crazy 'round our way."
I leaned back and put my hands behind my head. "What makes you think that?"
"This ain't something I'm thinking, I know this shit, Kai. Word on the street, I heard Lil' Rick been stealing our shit. He's coming up short and don't got shit to show for it. If that don't ring bells, I don't know what will."
I looked at Bone across the table and thought about what he said. Lil' Rick HAS been coming up short with my money lately, but I never really payed it no mind. I just figured he was falling off and not making any sells. Sooner than later I planned on cutting him off completely, I never really trusted his ass no way.
"Handle it then," I told Bone what I should've told him a week ago.
"Damn, straight like that?" he wanted to be sure.
I shrugged. "If that nigga ain't man enough to come at me like a man, he deserves it. He pussy," I answered him without a second thought about my decision.
"Aight, man, if that's what you say then its done."
I gave Bone a pound and got up to leave. This was quicker than I thought it would be.
"Aye man," Bone called out behind me. I turned around. "Me and some homeboys going to the strip club tonight. You riding?"
I thought about Diamond and Kaila. I thought about what Diamond just said to me before I got here. "Naw, man I'm chilling at home tonight," I told him with a smile.
