Chapter Six -- No Mistakes

Kai's POV

I woke up the next morning with my arms wrapped tightly around Diamond. She had her hand on my arm, lightly snoring.
I moved one of my arms from beneath her and slowly removed my arm from around her so she wouldn't wake up. I rolled over to the alarm clock sitting on the night stand.

7:51 A.M.

"Shit!" I hissed under my breath. I tried to sit up, but from me getting kicked in the ribs last night, it was hard to do so. I then felt Diamond moving beside me.

"Kai," she moaned in her sleep.

"I'm right here, baby," I whispered in her ear while wrapping one of my arms back around her. She leaned her body back against me, fitting perfectly in as always.

"Where were you going?" she asked me with her eyes still shut closed.

"To the bathroom."

"Don't lie to me, Kai." Her grey eyes snapped open.

I quickly inhaled then exhaled. I can't put shit past Diamond.

"I was going to Lil' Rick house," I gave in.

She sat up and looked at me with anger in her eyes. "Kai, don't even think about doing something stupid!"

"What the hell you mean, something stupid? This nigga just tried to get somebody to kill me not even 24 hours ago!"

"How do you know it was him?" she angrily asked in my face.

I exhaled again, sat up, and put my head in my hands. She was right. I don't know if it was him, but I got a gut feeling that it was.

"Because you don't," she answered her own question more calm than before. This time she exhaled. "Kai... baby, I know you wanna fuck who ever did this to you up and trust me, I want you to too, but you can't just go around killin' and hurting people because you ASSUMED they did it. Plus, look at you, you already got your ass whooped!"

I looked back at her. She was smiling so I know she was joking. "If you gonna' do something, plan the shit. Don't do nothing without thinking about it, 'cause the police will haul yo' stupid ass out of here without a second thought. Make no mistakes and make sure you get the right one Kai, that's all I'm saying," she said seriously, while laying back down and pulling the covers back over her.

I thought about what she said for a minute before I layed back down with her. "Damn, I didn't know my baby had it in her," I joked while kissing her cheek.

She laughed, "Yeah yeah, just go back to sleep, stupid."

I laughed to, "Alright my lil' ride or die Diamond."

*****

After going back to sleep with Diamond for the second time, I woke up again reaching out to her side, but she was gone.

"Diamond?" I yelled out while getting up from the bed.

"Morning, again," she came in smiling holding a breakfast tray filled with pancakes, eggs, bacon, hash browns, and grits. My baby girl was in front of her holding two glasses orange juice.

"Hey, Daddy," she said with sadnes in her brown eyes. She handed me the juice, climbed onto my lap, and layed her head on my chest. I looked up at Diamond in question.

"She's sad because you're hurt," she mouthed quietly.

I looked down at Kaila and her little cheeks was wet from her tears. That broke my heart.

I put my arms around her little body. "Kaila, Daddy's okay, alright? Don't cry, big girl," I told her. Seeing my little girl tears just made me want to kill them mutherfuckas' even more.

She nodded her head.

"Look at me," I told her gently.

She sat up and turned towards me. "Remember that Malibu Barbie Playhouse you wanted?" She nodded her head again. "Daddy's gonna' get it for you today, but you have to stop crying first. Can you smile for me?"

She smiled her little front toothless grin and wipped her tears, making my heart beat faster.

I smiled back at her. "Thats Daddy's girl," I said while tickling her sides. She burst out laughing and put her little arms around my neck.

"I love you, Dad."

"I love you too, baby girl."

I looked back up at Diamond who was still standing up holding the tray.

"We gonna' eat or you gon' stand there looking goofy all day?" I asked her jokingly.

She wipped her tears, "No," she said while sitting next to me and Kaila with the tray between us.

"Such a cry baby," I joked while grabbing a hash brown.

She pushed me lightly. "Shut up."
