Double-Sided Gambles

"For someone who avoided the council for more than a few thousand years, I was not expecting you to come with this type of approach. Tell me, has something changed your mind?"

It surprised me to see how quickly Luurè moved at the opportunity of meeting me. For a while, I had thought that he had refused. I assumed Yuuto told him the second he got the chance. Due to certain complications regarding the Old Ruins, it looked like it really could no longer be sealed properly. Luurè's appearance in Ningenkai proved that, even after what I did to close it. Though it didn't really matter to me at this point. I should have spoken to Koenma about the stones and their current whereabouts before meeting Luurè, but something told me that it wouldn't be necessary. I would go and speak to him after I was finished talking to Luurè. It wasn't likely that Luurè knew anything about the stones whereabouts himself, but it didn't hurt to get any other type of information from him. I would eventually go from there.

"I have a small request for you", I began to say to him. "Whether you choose to listen to it or not is all up to you. However, I'd rather have you listen otherwise this entire meeting would have been for nothing." "It amuses me to hear such thing from you", he replied with a slight smile, "A request from an old companion, one who was able to manage on her own for so long? It matters not on whether I choose to listen or not, it all depends on what you're willing to give in return." "Then I will cut to the chase, as we have always done", I nonchalantly mumbled. "I want you to help me locate my body." Luurè stared at me as if he was thinking hard about something. "You want me to help you locate the whereabouts of your original body?" There was disbelief in his voice. "By doing so, what will I get in return?" "You can kill me." Luurè narrowed his eyes. "Is that all?", he coldly asked. "Don't make me laugh." "What more can I offer in order for you to do my request?", I asked. A cruel smile appeared on his face as he slowly began to approach me. Soon enough, he was in front of me. "Anything?", he said. I hesitated. "Anything", I replied.

"Jah, then I want you to produce an heir." My eyes widened. His calculating gaze didn't disappear. "I recall that when you were still my right hand, you mentioned how you never wanted to continue your bloodline. Even when you left Makai, you completely erased everything about you, which made it even more difficult to try and make a clone." "To think you would remember something like that", I muttered with a slight grin. "Clones are quite nice", he sighed, "But originals are even better." "But why an heir?", I asked. "Don't you want to kill me for doing what I did?" "It's true that both options are suitable for this trade..", Luurè began to say. "But I think it's much better to think about the benefits that come with the selected choice. For instance, my choice to kill you can happen at any time. The only benefit of that would be getting rid of the hate that grew during the years you disappeared. Once you're dead, it's over. However, an heir. There is no better time to mention it but now. This will be like killing two birds with one stone." It made sense. I would produce an heir with my bloodline and when it came to the point where I was no longer needed, he would kill me.

"Will you kill me after an heir is born?", I asked after a while. Luurè only smiled. "Will I, I wonder..", he mumbled. The choice was all mine. Would I, or would I not?

Only I would know.

As I made my way through the bustling area of which those types of demons worked, they automatically made a pathway for me as soon as I was seen. Not much of the Spirit World changed. The only thing that did were the forked paths. Depending on which was followed, you could either go to Makai or go straight past that to Hell itself. There was also the pathway to Heaven, but only those who were selected to walk down that path can see it.

When I arrived to the Spirit World to find Koenma, I wasn't expecting any help. However, it appears that I was being expected. To my surprise, Jorge, the ogre that worked as one of the subordinates for Koenma, was waiting for me. I smirked. "If you intend to come this far to greet me", I said out of amusement, "At least try to hide the fact that you're afraid." "Th- that's easier said than done..", I heard him say. "Honestly, is that how you treat someone that you haven't seen in so many years ?", I sighed. He hesitated, wondering how he should respond. I didn't wait for him. Instead, I walked past him. "H-hey wait!", I heard him call out. Afterwords, I heard the shuffling of hurried footsteps. He had caught up to my pace. "It's just that I never expected you to come back to this place", he began to explain, "Moreover, you're not in your original body." "Do you want to know what happened to that original body?", I asked. He shook his head. I looked over my shoulder and smiled at him. "Good." Jorge flinched.

"Since you've come to greet me yourself Jorge", I said with a slight smile, "Does that mean that you know why I've come to this place ?" "I was informed after Botan informed Koenma", he replied. "You're asking about the Stones huh ?" "It's such a shame that King Enma is out", I sighed in dismay, "It would have been nice to meet him again but it looks like it can't be helped." "Is Koenma not enough ?", Jorge asked. "It depends", I replied. "I just wonder if King Enma spoke to him about it. It's possible that he knows of them but not of their location."

The subordinates that were working in the main room scattered as soon as the door opened. Paper flew everywhere. I stepped into the room and sighed. Koenma had his back towards us when we approached his desk. "Unorganized as usual", I nonchalantly said out loud. "Your form of order hasn't changed." Koenma twirled around in his chair with a stern expression on his face. His hands were folded as he placed them on his desk. "I see you've arrived", he said, "I've been expecting you Kana." "I've been told", I replied. "It's been a while." "It has." Around us, the subordinates began to leave. Soon it was just Koenma and I. Jorge had left along with them.

"So little Koenma", I said as I slowly began to approach his desk, "Tell me, will you be useful to me or not ?" Koenma smirked and crossed his arms over his chest. "Heh, you haven't changed one bit", he said. "You're just as straight forward as the last time I remember!" "I've been asleep for more than 15 thousand years", I nonchalantly replied, "Of course I haven't changed." "You're here because you want to know about the stones right ?", he asked. I nodded my head. "Do you have anything for me? Like their location and what not ?" Koenma stood up and walked over to a filing cabinet. "As of now, I don't", he replied. "However there should be something about them here somewhere."

"Oyaji mentioned it to me before. He said something about what they were but he never said what happened to them." "The Guardian System has been up and running for a while", I said as I looked out the window, "However the lineup is quite short. Oka and Ciel are from the 5th lineup of successors. If they didn't receive the stones, then is it possible they were lost?" "It's most likely the case", Koenma replied while he flipped through a folder. "However there are some records of the stones being here in Reikai." "If so, then where?", I asked. Koenma frowned and closed the folder. "I'll look into it", he said as he returned it to the cabinet. "The moment I find something about them, I'll tell Botan to tell you." "Good", I mumbled.

Although.. that was the least of my worries.

While I was leaving the Spirit World, I was thinking about a way to get out of the trade with Luurè. After he made up his mind, that was it. I grimaced to myself as I followed the pathway that led to the Human World. It had surprised me when he mentioned an heir. At the same time, it amused me. An heir for Makai? An heir with the blood of Makai's traitor? Sometimes I didn't know what he was thinking. Luurè never changed. At first glance, he was carefree and optimistic. He didn't seem like the type to kill. However the moment you displease him, that carefree facade of his disappears and he kills you without a second thought. He reminded me of my past self. All I used to care about was killing those that didn't matter. But now? Hopefully Luurè will be able to realize what I realized those many years ago. If not, then there's nothing. I sighed in dismay as I arrived in the Human World. Was this even worth it?
