Summary: "Can you do a fic where Mattys gets with a black girl but keeps it a secret at first because he's afraid what everyone will say / Matty has been dating a black girl for a couple of months. He hasn't told his close friends or family as he's scared of what they might think (they're really happy for him)"

After nearly three months of dating, Matty was ready to come clean.

He wasn't ashamed of you, or anything remotely of the sort. No, he actually was so, so incredibly in love with all that made up you, of the way you gazed at him with your chocolate brown eyes, of the feel of your skin against his while laying together and listening to music. Matty was so head over heels for you. So much so, that he was scared he would lose you to some twisted fate. Given how no other girl caught his eye like you and no other boy could compare to him to you, he was convinced that twisted fate would come at the hand of his family and friends, the people he thought he could trust the most.

He was scared one of them would mention the color of your skin, and say something negative about it. He was scared no one would accept it in the same casual, nonchalant way he did. Even just asking why he chose to be with a black girl, no matter how well intentioned it would sound, would send Matty off. He didn't want you to be treated any different than one of his past girlfriends. He didn't want there to be any issue or distraction. He just wanted your love for each other to be the main focus. But, he couldn't trust that it would. So, he kept you two hidden from everyone - friends, family, fans. No one knew. You were his little secret, and that was that.

Secrets after a while become hard to keep, though. Not only were there plenty of times when one of the boys would grab Matty's phone without warning and nearly catch the texts between the two of you, or they'd see Matty make a goofy face and wonder who it was causing it, but keeping it all a secret grew tiresome. Both of you wanted to tell the world. You wanted to shout it out loud that you were happy together. Yet, fear stood in the way.

Matty was fed up with fear. Truly, completely fed up with it. He didn't want to think about hearing any snide remarks from those closest to him, but dammit he wanted someone to know, if anyone. So, he invited the boys over to have a dinner at his flat once they got off touring, and invited his family to join as well, gathering everyone to meet you for the first time. He didn't want to have to send anyone out of there angrily, but he was prepared to at a moment's notice if anyone said something sly about you. He was willing to do whatever he needed to do in order to keep you happy, and prove his feelings for you were serious.

Dressed up, Matty had his entire home decked out. He had catered food, he cleaned up the flat and even freshened it up, he set up candles - hell, even Allen got a bowtie added to his collar. He wanted to make it apparent that it was a special night in every way possible. The first few guests to enter were Adam and Ross. They thankfully stuck to the more elegant clothing theme of the night, wearing pants and nice buttoned-up shirts. George, the next guest, came in slightly less distinguished, still in a suit but with it unbuttoned slightly at the top to reveal part of his chest. Matty didn't mind much though - that was just how George was. His family came next, first Denise with Louis and then Tim trailing in shortly after. Matty brought the entire gang to the food, and invited them to all grab a plate and join him at the table. As soon as they were settled, the doorbell rang again. All eyes went to Matty as he stood.

"Who else did you invite, mate?" George asked before stuffing garlic bread into his mouth. Matty bit his lip and dodged the question. He hurried over to the front door and opened it, revealing you looking absolutely stunning in a yellow dress that went down to just above your knee and was cinched at the waist. It was the most beautiful he had ever seen you. He stole a quick kiss before placing his hand on the small of your back and guiding you inside to the table. When the two of you approached their sight, all eyes again became trained. Matty cleared his throat, pushing the nerves he had to the back of his stomach.

"Everyone, I'd like you to meet {Y/N}," he said, turning to look at you with a soft smile. You waved at the crowd of familiar yet new faces, flashing them a bashful smile. "{Y/N}, meet the boys and my family."

They all gave warm smiles, George waving back at you alongside his. Denise had a brilliant smile. Louis nodded your way before going back to his food, his hunger clearly being his number one priority at the moment. Matty didn't mind. Tim even looked pleased to see you, his eyes soft to you. Matty brought you over to sit between him and George, getting you some food before settling beside you. You thanked him kindly.

"So {Y/N}, how do you know Matty?"

Matty tenses at his mother's words. If they hadn't gotten the idea that the two of you were involved yet, this certainly would be it. You smiled at Denise, and waited until you finished chewing to speak.

"We met each other about three months ago at a store on one of their tour stops," you told her, memories flooding your mind. "He was mulling about in one of the isles, and I passed by him not even aware of who he was. He saw me though, and came over giving me some cheesy line about how I am the most beautiful girl he's ever seen and it'd be a sin to the universe if he did not get to know me." Across the table, Louis shared a chuckle with Ross. Matty shifted, blushing. "We got to talking, he gave me his number, and ever since then we've sort of been a thing. Your boy is really lovely, Denise."

Smiling, Denise reached across the table and patted Matty's hand that had been resting on it flat, extending the smile to him. "I'm so glad to hear that."

The rest of the night went well, even better than Matty had expected. You fit into the bunch like a missing puzzle piece, playing along with the boys and charming over his parents like no tomorrow. He grew comfortable enough to wrap his arm around you around them, and even kiss your cheek. Before long, it seemed almost silly that he had kept you stowed away as a secret. Getting up to go grab a drink from the kitchen, he was met by George, and asked why he did keep you hidden. It brought an embarrassed hue of pink to his cheeks.

"I was scared you guys would say something about her," he admitted, popping off the top of a new wine bottle. "Not that any of you would, but you know...I didn't want her to have to hear that. She's so kind and loving and good to me. I wouldn't want her to be reduced to the color of her skin."

Humming in acknowledgement, George leaned against the counter. "Are you scared that fans will say things like that, too?"

Matty paled slightly. "Yeah. But...I'm almost to the point where it's like...fuck them if they do. She knows she's loved by the people who are most important to me. That's all that really matters."

George smiled. "That is is. We've got her back. We're all really happy for you, by the way. You two are wonderful together, and she's stunning. So smart and so headstrong. She might give you a run for your money."

Chuckling, Matty shoved George and took a sip from his glass. "Sod off. But thank you. I feel lucky to have her."

Following his friend's lead, the two of them made their way back into now the main room where everyone sat. You happily took the glass of wine Matty poured for you as he sat down beside you. When he was situated, his arm around you, you clinked your glass with him and grinned beautifully.

"To no longer keeping secrets," you mumbled, soft and sweet to him. After sipping from his glass, he leaned forward and kissed you tenderly.

"To no longer keeping secrets."
