"Sarah!" whispered Penny "Sarah!"
I had a hard time getting my eyelids open. I wished I could have slept a little longer since I felt so groggy. Rubbing my eyes, I sat up in my car seat and saw that it was night time. The crickets chirping was so loud that we were able to hear them from the car. The area we were parked in was similar to the place I lived in. There was open land, power lines running through the place, the only difference was that there were more trees
"What state are we in?" I asked
"Were in Indiana" said Penny "It's about 11:00 now so we need to switch. I'm tired now"
"Okay"
When I stepped outside of the car, the warm summer breeze blew in my face. It was rather humid tonight. The crickets chirping and the extremely hot night that melted my face off was actually really peacefully. I just stood next to the car for a moment to look at my surroundings. I was in Indiana. I was actually in Indiana. I was thinking and breathing in Indiana. I have never traveled this far before. The furthest I have ever been was upstate New York to see my family. And I thought that was an adventure. Now this road trip was taking me to New York City and Indiana. Sure, this is the trip of a lifetime but I never had a moment to take it all in. I was way too worried about Mike
Finally, I got into the driver's seat, shut the door, and put my seatbelt on. I still couldn't believe I was driving again. It's been awhile. Luckily, I still remembered how to drive
"Okay, so I want you to stay on this road" said Penny "This highway is about a thousand miles long and you should get to the end of it by the time I wake up"
"I could do that" I said. Thank God all I had to do was drive straight the whole time. I could not handle directions tonight. Part of me was suspicious as to how Penny even knew what roads to take without map or gps but I just went along with her sense of direction anyways
Indiana was rather a beautiful state. For miles and miles, I was driving through open land and forests that were lit up by highway lights in the middle. Since I was in the Midwest, I saw a few windmills and old time power lines which was pretty cool. Rhode Island looked pretty similar to this but there was a special feeling inside of me to know I was in a different state
The roads were welly lit but had no cars in them. So why should I be riding at 50 miles per hour like the sign says when if I ride 100 miles per hour, I could get to California twice as fast. There was no cars in the way and I doubt any police officers were around. So why should I put Mikes life more on the line?
So, I stepped on it and raced through the highways at 100 miles per hour. The engine made loud roaring noises in the back and I was going so fast, I had no idea where the car was even going. My stomach also felt a little carsick but I didn't care. I needed to save Mike and that's all that matters
After about an hour of riding 100 miles per hour, I felt really woozy and dizzy. The engine noises had died since I was driving so fast for a long amount of time. Then, I saw flashing red and blue lights behind me. I looked in the mirror to see why that flashing was going on and sure enough, it was the police. Great, my first ticket. Maybe it wasn't the best idea to go double the speed limit
I took a deep breath and pulled over to the side of the road. After I parked, a middle-aged police officer with a cowboy hat comes to my window
"Howdy yall" said the officer in a heavy southern accident. It was crazy how people with southern accents lived in Iowa, the state I thought I was in by now "You went over the speed limit by a lot, you can't be so reckless, and you could really hurt somebody"
"Sorry" I muttered "I've been having a lot of problems today, that's all"
"Well next time you can't be that stupid" said the officer as he was writing me out a ticket "May I see your driver's license?"
