I found myself in a meadow.

It was a simple meadow with dried golden locks of overgrown grass and a few winged bugs flying around in what looked like midday sunlight. It was warm and I could tell when I put my palm to the sky to block out the brightness.

Across from me, more trees curved into a pocket where a stout figure stood as rigid as a person coming out of a blizzard in just underwear. They looked at me with familiar green eyes the color of a maple in the spring with green leaves. I took a nervous step forwards, not controlling my body to do so.

"State your name."

"Terra Sloane, Sir," I heard myself say in a little girl's voice.

"And what have you done, Sloane?"

"I was caught stealing a pistol from a weapons table."

The man perked an eyebrow and I stood straighter.

"Sir."

"Why did you attempt to steal it?"

"Because I wanted to learn to shoot," I paused, "Sir."

Even from my childish eyes, I could see the amusement sparking from the man's green eyes. He walked forwards, kneeling down to be eye level with me, and I grinned.

"Oh Terra, you are so much like your father."

"Is that good or bad?"

"We'll have to see, young one."

With that, the man bundled me up into a tight hug which I returned. I felt his lips press against my hair as I pulled away to touch his scruffy cheek.

It was in that moment that my current self realized who the man was and that this moment had actually happened. Yet it hadn't been in a meadow, so why was I in one now?

"Kash," I whispered, appearing as my older self to the side of the scene.

"This was one of my favorite moments between us," an accented voice spoke from my left, the figure watching the scene of younger me and young Kash. "I realized you were so innocent and had no idea what sort of trouble you could've gotten in if you'd been older."

"Am I dreaming or are you actually alive in front of me?"

"Am I dead in your real world?"

Definitely a dream...an interesting one.

"I miss you so much Kash."

"Am I dead in your real world?" he repeated, cocking his head.

I blinked. "Well, yes. I watched the top of the tower explode."

"Am I dead?" his voice was becoming deeper and deeper.

I couldn't help but take a cautious step backwards.

"Kash?"

"Am I dead?"

I let out a fearful scream as he raised a hand, covering my eyes with my hands.
