When I woke up I expected to be on the Ruination. I guess I really never expected myself to wake up in general. The fact that I did, with a big gasp, was relieving in itself.

My eyes fell first on the door to the Sick Bay room I was in. The insignia wasn't that of UNSA, but two triangles linked through each other going around and around. I narrowed my eyes instantaneously, my guard going up.

I flung the covers off of my body, seeing I was still in uniform, and went for the door. In silence, I opened it three inches to inspect the other side. No one was in the short hallway.

My instinct told me to sneak out and find Reyes, so I did just that. My feet silent, I padded down the hall, making sure to peek into every window of every room- most empty or containing a soldier with wounds.

Going around a corner, my eyes stumbled onto a group of SDF soldiers speaking in low voices. Pistols were strapped at their thighs, however there wasn't any other threat. I still didn't dare walk up to them and demand to know things.

Without looking over my shoulder, I backed up a little quickly. My legs tangled, still slightly numb from everything that had happened, and I went tumbling for the floor backwards.

That was until someone caught me.

"You shouldn't be out wandering with your wounds."

That voice shocked my core and I hurriedly found my balance, shoving off of the person in disgust. I hugged my arms, glaring upwards at the dark-clothed figure in front of me. His face showed no emotion- as usual- and he studied me as if I was an entirely different species.

"You," I hissed. "Where is he? Where did you take him? If you so much as-"

"He's alive. I can take you to him."

I narrowed my eyes in distrust. Colis simply shrugged and walked past me, towards the group of SDF soldiers. I silently prayed that I was doing the right thing and then cautiously followed him.

The soldiers straightened to the presence of their leader and then locked their gazes on me. I stood as tall as I could, trying to depict myself as the commander I was supposed to be. It was hard, as their eyes were literal daggers into my soul.

Colis turned a few corners before coming up on a larger room with glass windows. He faced the glass, hands behind his back, and I steadily wound up next to him. My right hand immediately went to the glass and I breathed out in reluctant relief.

Reyes was resting on a reclined bed without sheets or covers. His body was attached to different machines through needles and cords plugged into his skin. His eyes were closed and his chest rose and fell...barely.

"The machine is keeping him alive."

"You did this to him," I snapped, rounding on Colis. "Now you're trying to save him?"

"I'm trying to keep him alive so I can question him."

"What's he going to answer for you? Honestly?" I demanded. "You know everything about what we're trying to do. All we want is to stop you from destroying this solar system and everything in it. Why do you need to question him?"

Colis was quiet, his dark eyes flickering over to where Reyes rested attached to the different life-saving machines. I sighed and shook my head. I rested my forehead against the glass in defeat.
