I woke up surprisingly relaxed.
Around me, muscular arms shifted as I did, one with my body for being attached so long. Fingers carefully caressed my back, waking me further. I slowly opened my eyes, meeting a blue ocean wave of bliss.
It was honestly the best thing to wake up to.
I gave a friendly full-lipped smile and it was immediately returned. "Did you sleep as good as I did?"
"Better."
My hand instinctively reached to brush his relaxed jaw and he closed his eyes to the touch. Reyes gave another warm smile, so unusually beautiful and perfect.
Releasing his face, I rolled over and raised my arms up in a stretch. Every muscle in my body quivered from the extension of my body. I let out a relieved sigh and returned back to normal, my back still towards Reyes.
"We should probably get up."
"Probably."
Then I felt his lips peck my exposed neck.
"Reyes, you aren't helping-"
His warm mouth kissed over my clothed shoulder and continued all the way down my goose bump-invested arm. Reyes used a gentle hand to lift it up towards his pecking lips. They rested against my hand for a few moments.
I couldn't believe I was actually going against everything I had ever told anyone. For the longest time Reyes had been the figure of a leader, a teacher, a mentor even, and I had refused to call him anything else. I'd been too stubborn to actually see what we had slowly been turning into- even through Irena's comments and the secretive looks others stole. Even the birthday dinner was something I'd just seen as a kind act of appreciation.
Now that Reyes and I were here...most of it didn't even seem real. I didn't want it to stop either. Reyes and I had been through too much to go backwards and forget the day he'd bandaged me. We were where we were and we would only continue to move forwards.
"Everything okay?"
I broke from my thoughts, seeing that Reyes had stopped kissing the top of my hand to look into my eyes. At this point, I was turned at the torso, but Reyes was bracing himself over me. It was a close and protective stance that made me run my hands along his broad shoulders.
"Yes," I swallowed and gave a minute smile. "You're just blocking me from leaving."
"I don't want you to leave."
"Me either, but I have duties," I gave him a motherly glare. "You do too."
"Last I knew they were to rest in my quarters," Reyes traced my jaw with a finger.
"Whoever gave you those orders is smart."
"Eh," Reyes smirked playfully to my gaped mouth. "She's good-looking though."
Grinning, I pushed on his shoulders, attempting to lift him out of the hold he had me trapped in. Reyes let out a breath and moved as I silently sat up. He immediately let out a chuckle of amusement.
