"I have a strong feeling of deja vu at the moment," I grumbled, scanning the sights of my gun over the abandoned room.
"We've been on Mars too much," Reyes replied through his helmet, moving ahead to a more useful part of the factory. "Elijah, are we clear through here?"
"Mostly," came a muffled reply. "Two guards flanking left."
Reyes came up against the wall and I copied, bringing my weapon closer to my body so that I could unsheathe my knife. At a slight crouch, Reyes snuck up behind one of the SDF patrol guards and took him out. I copied too quickly for the other to react, slicing the throat of the muttering soldier.
I dragged the body to a shadowed spot, finding Reyes doing the same not too far off. He re-equipped his rifle, shooting me a glance, before continuing deeper into the building. I pulled out my gun, eyeing the SDF activity on the level below us.
Since we were on a steel balcony above them, I found my feet treading impossibly lightly. I kept my eyes scanning at all times. This was to be more of a stealth mission to get out cleanly.
"We're here," Reyes stated, cautiously opening the door to the control room.
"The files will be somewhere in there," Elijah spoke.
I pulled out the flat hard drive, my fingers plucking it into the console with tempered skill. Reyes looked out the door to our left, a half window revealing more steps down to the other level. I watched the drive seductively pull out information and files, storing the copies away in its small memory bank.
"Almost there," I commented, looking at Reyes.
He removed his gaze from the window and silently padded over to me. His eyes studied the blinking of the working drive and then swept across my form. I knew he was triple checking for the thousandth time if I was mentally stable.
Yes, entering the atmosphere of Mars had made me nervous and yes, I was constantly having memory flashbacks. But I was alright. I was handling the mission with ease and taking one step at a time.
"I'm fine," I told him firmly, glaring up into his questioning blue gaze.
"I know."
"Then why are you staring at me?"
"Cause I want to."
I felt the stomach blush again and I nervously turned away from Reyes. My face lit up in a cheeky grin and I bit my lower lip to try to hide it. I knew Reyes had seen what his comment did, however, as I felt his smile even from the side of my head.
"It's done," I murmured and pulled the drive from the slot. Tucking it back into my pocket, I faced Reyes. "Let's get out of here."
"Not so fast, you won't."
The voice was dreadful and I wanted to throw my knife just at the tone of it.
Jumping back and spinning to face the door, Reyes and I braced our muscles. I narrowed my gaze, fighting as hard as I could to hold back the fear that followed with that godforsaken face.
"Colis," Reyes hissed.
"Stealing are we?" he directed the question towards me.
