"Is he going to live?"
"What?" Dani turned from where she was prepping needles to inject Caleb with, her brown gaze soft.
"Will he live?" I stepped forwards and rested a hand on Caleb's unconscious body.
"Of course he will. He lost quite a bit of blood and this is his body recuperating."
I blinked, shutting my eyes for longer than a second. "This is my fault."
"Terra-"
"If I would've have left him-"
"He wouldn't be alive at all!" Dani clutched my hands, drawing close. "You saved his life, Terra. That isn't something that you should tell yourself you're negatively at fault for. It's not something I will forget anytime soon either."
I gazed into her deep chocolate eyes, seeing- for the first time- a hint of respect. Dani squeezed my hands and then went back to the counter in the small Sick Bay room. I looked back at Caleb.
"He's going to be mad at me once he comes to."
"Absolutely," Dani smirked. "But I think you can handle things."
I sighed and touched Caleb's hand in longing. He was alive, that was the main point I had to tell myself. Dani was right...if I hadn't risked my life then there's the possibility that neither one of us would be here. It wasn't like I knew how to fly a Jackal. There wasn't a doubt I would've been shot out of the air- if I'd gotten into it at all.
"You need to go do something to relax," Dani suggested slowly. "I can tell all of this is taking its toll on you."
"I'm mostly worried about what Kash will decide," I murmured loud enough for her to hear.
"If he's smart and calms down, he'll see what you did was a point for our side," Dani fixed the corner of the bed and then looked to the door. "Go on, stop worrying now."
I dipped my head and then briskly exited the room so that the medic could do her work. My feet led my motionless body. My mind drug my senses because it didn't feel like I could feel anything at all.
It didn't take very long for me to find a secluded window with a wide sill. I sat down gradually, drawing my legs up to stretch out in front of me. My eyes traveled out the window almost blindly.
I waited to see an SDF ship. At any time, I knew they would attack and push revenge onto the Ruination for what I helped Caleb do. If they came with enough force we wouldn't be able to hold them off without support that we would never have.
I wonder what would happen if Kash died. The Ruination would go to ruins, falling apart from the inside out. People would be frantic...I know I would.
But there was always Reyes.
In that situation, would he take over? Would he live up to his potential for once? Reyes was smart, I recognized that now, and I knew he would make the correct choices to make sure no one got hurt. Surely, he would take over if something happened to Kash.
"Hey."
Wiggling against the window, I felt my leg jerk in surprise. My shoulders bounced and I snapped my neck to look at the owner of the whiskey-smooth voice.
