My eyes were so crusty I could barely keep them open. My legs quivered with the effort to stand as I held my breath. My lungs tightened to the lack of oxygen.
The planet around me blew a vicious dust storm and it blinded everyone trying to fight. With my mask broken, I couldn't find anyone. My ears were the only sense that could pick up the sounds of battle.
Then he was in front of me, talking through his mask as he detached a piece of it. A hard object was shoved up to my lips and I began breathing, finding the inability to move. His strong blue eyes never left mine as he gripped my chin.
"We need to move now!"
"This way!" someone called off to our right, taking cover in a building.
I limped along behind the man who'd given me some of his oxygen. His hand found the middle of my back as we reached the air chamber, reassuring me little. As he released my back, he shot a few more times as the door closed, killing more enemies.
My green eyes traveled to the limp body in a blonde man's arms across from me and my heart sank deeper into the bottomless lake it currently floated in. Her blank eyes cried, yet nothing came from her parted lips. The man shifted her gently and met my sorrowful gaze.
"How are we supposed to leave?" a short woman demanded, looking to my savior.
"Find a Skelter," the man glanced to me and then removed my mouthpiece. "And stay where oxygen is available."
"We need to keep our guard up, they won't give up," I heard myself speak despite my shock and lack of breath.
"I won't let him to you," the savior met my gaze, sparking something deep within me.
I nodded.

My alarm clock antagonized me as it screamed on the side table nearby. I parted my lips in a groan and rolled, reaching to slam the blaring sound off. Instead, my legs caught in the covers and I flipped off the side of the bed, landing painfully on the floor.
"Ow," I grumbled, hitting my alarm clock off.
My phone started ringing as I managed to get up. I groaned again and rubbed my face as I went out into my apartment's kitchen and picked up my cell.
"Hello?"
"Jesus, Terra, you're actually alive. I've called you ten times. Anyways, I need you to come into work early," my boss, Kash, breathed.
I wanted to complain, but I bit my tongue. "Alright, I'll be there as soon as I can."
I hung up the phone and walked to the cheap leather couch in the living room. Collapsing onto it, I hugged one of the small pillows and closed my eyes. I let out a hum of comfort and then felt myself begin to fall back asleep.
The alarm went off again.
"God dammit!"
I ran in my room and ripped the cord from the wall.
Grumbling, I stood straighter and ran a hand through my messy dirty blonde hair. Going into the bathroom, I scrubbed my teeth and pulled my hair up into a neat bun. As soon as I finished, I changed into my uniform. Mostly black, my uniform had a slight bit of blue with padding and pockets for whatever my daily tasks required of me.
"Come into work early," I muttered as I found a quick breakfast in the fridge. "Bullshit."
I picked up my car keys from their hanger on the fridge and then grabbed my purse. My mind made my body pause as I made sure I had everything for a work day. Once I was satisfied with my items, I exited my apartment, locking the door with my handprint ID.
