"For me?" I demanded. "Why?"
"I don't know," Elijah went back to work. "He went that way."
In both frustration and bewilderment, I spun on my heels and headed for where Elijah had pointed. Leaving the young black man to handle everything on the bridge- which I didn't doubt he could do- I wove through the ship. I didn't leave a single corridor unchecked.
"Where are you going soldier?" a Sergeant demanded as he rounded the corner on me.
I tilted my head. "I'm looking for Kash."
"He's over fighting at the south end. There was a huge breach, flames and structural damage."
I stifled a gasp and then rushed past him.
I knew Kash could handle himself. I knew he was defending just like the others. But I also knew there were probably low numbers at the breach. That meant everyone there could die if enough SDF soldiers pushed through.
"Look out!"
I heard shouts and bangs coming from the secondary hangar towards the back of the Ruination. Personally I thought the ship had been poorly designed. Most attacks focused on the thrusters which were very close to the secondary hangar. That meant the Ruination could lose a lot of air advantage.
Luckily, the breach was in the actual corridor where engineers and technicians tended to the engine of the ship. Of course the SDF would target here. Taking out this entire room meant the destruction of the entire ship.
As if on signal that I was arriving, the entirety of the Ruination shuddered. The impact slammed me against the wall of the hallway that I was jogging through. I groaned and steadied my body.
"We need more support!"
"I don't know if there's anyone else to help!"
Running into the entrance of the engine room, I came face to face with a huge hole in the side of the ship. With the technology of security, the open space outside wasn't yanking people out. SDF soldiers came in, landing on the edge of the hole, like flies onto a piece of fruit. They were shooting rapidly at the limited soldiers we had.
Crouching so that I wasn't hit, I cursed at myself for not grabbing a weapon. How was I supposed to help fight when there was nothing for me to do such?
Finding the built in communications device on the wall closest to me, I narrowed my eyes. I could contact Dani and get her to come over here. That would have us at an advantage pushing SDF away from our precious motors.
"Dani!" I ran to the wall, hoping she had her own personal comms.
"Terra?"
"We need support at the thrusters now!"
"Terra," there was static and she cursed, "we're taking heavy fire at the landing pad!"
"We can survive without it, these engines are everything!"
There was a sigh and then a call to retreat. I breathed out.
"You better be sprinting, Dani."
Switching over the channel, I located Reyes' Jackal. He must've noticed the incoming call because the static became clearer once he connected.
